Haserich lies at an elevation of around 440 metres above sea level in the source basin of the Flaumbach. The area around the village brings together farmland and a forest of around 140 hectares, which surrounds it in a semicircle from north to south. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you’ll find hiking and cycling routes here, along with historical points of interest in the village and along the Celtic Trail.
Forests, fields and trails around Haserich
There are well-maintained roads and field and forest tracks for cycling around Haserich. The same local network is also used for hiking. This means you can spend time outdoors on foot or by bike, without the two activities taking place in separate areas. There are numerous benches for resting in the hiking and cycling area. They offer a place to take a break along the way, whether you’re out for a walk or on a cycling tour.
Kirchspiel hiking trail and Celtic Trail
Haserich is part of the Kirchspiel hiking trail around Blankenrath. The circular route, which is around 20 kilometres long, connects Haserich with Reidenhausen, Panzweiler, Walhausen, Schauren and Hesweiler. If you prefer a shorter route, you can choose from twelve sections ranging from 2 to 20 kilometres. The different lengths give you a practical point to consider when planning: you can choose either an individual stage or the entire loop. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
The name Kirchspiel refers to a historic ecclesiastical district. Accordingly, the route links parish churches and village chapels. This gives the circular trail a different focus from a simple route description: churches and chapels are presented in the context of the former organisation of the communities. The route length and choice of sections help you plan a hike to suit your preferred distance.
Another route is the Nahe-Mosel Celtic Trail. It runs from Kirn via Kirchberg to Treis-Karden and branches off near Haserich in the direction of Senheim. Large sections of the trail follow routes laid out by the Celts and later adopted and extended by the Romans. A hill near the Celtic Trail offers a view over the site of a former Roman street village. While the Kirchspiel hiking trail is described as a circular route with sections to choose from, the Celtic Trail passes through several places and draws on the history of older routes.
Archaeological traces and St. Michael’s Chapel
Haserich’s archaeological history is believed to date back around 4,000 years. Finds from Haserich included a coffin with a spearhead. A Roman head found in the village’s fields is part of the local coat of arms.
The small St. Michael’s Chapel stands next to the community hall. It was built in 1932 and dedicated to St. Michael. The Pietà was also repainted during renovations in 1974. The chapel can be viewed from the outside at any time. Its steel bell was probably cast in 1946 at the Brockscheid bell foundry in the Eifel. A visit to the chapel can therefore be combined with a look at its architectural history and the recorded details about the bell.
