Landscheid is located between Trier, Wittlich, and Bitburg. Here, archaeological traces meet memories of trade and everyday life; trails along the Lieser and Salm add to the view of the landscape. This gives you a choice of different focuses for your stay: explore local history and cultural sites, or make a hike the centrepiece of your visit.

Archaeological Traces and Signs of Trade

The Burscheid Wall is a Celtic circular rampart in the Landscheid area. The site includes parts of a Celtic refuge and remains of a settlement from Roman times. At this location, you can encounter evidence from two distinct historical periods.

The Roman tomb also points to the past: the sandstone structure is considered a tomb-like monument and is thought to have been built around 200 AD. This date is approximate. Another local landmark tells the story of the local working world: in the centre of Landscheid, the Guild Tree displays symbols of local merchants and tradespeople.

The Peter Zirbes House and Local History

The Peter Zirbes House is located in the former home of Eifel poet Peter Zirbes. It displays paintings, drawings, manuscripts, photographs, and books from his estate. Original furnishings also illustrate the living conditions of merchants from Niederkail and Landscheid. Literature and everyday history come together here in one place.

Visits to the Peter Zirbes House are possible by appointment. Arrange your visit in advance. A historic merchant’s wagon from 1900 offers another glimpse into the lives of local merchants in the past: visitors can climb aboard. Check current access arrangements before your visit.

In Burg, the Chapel of the Holy Cross replaced an older chapel in 1908; it was consecrated in 1909. The two dates provide a brief timeline of its construction history.

Walking Trails Between the Lieser and Salm

The local circular trail “Mills on the Lieser and Salm” links the Lieser and Salm valleys via Himmerod. Along the way, riverside areas alternate with woodland, paths with natural surfaces, meadows, and fields; the route also includes viewpoints. These landscape features show what the tour focuses on: varied trail settings rather than just one type of scenery.

A route description from Himmerod follows the Salm, passing through green countryside and by historic mills. The Eifelsteig offers a different connection to Landscheid: Stage 13 runs only briefly along the edge of the village. If you are weighing up the trail options, you can choose between a described local loop and the Eifelsteig’s brief passage by the village.

Pony Activities in Landscheid-Burg

Ponyhofabenteuer in Landscheid-Burg offers pony groups and bookable activities where you can watch, groom, and lead ponies. Ceramic painting is also available. This adds a different activity to the cultural and walking options; check the specific booking options when planning your visit.
