Dierscheid is a hiking destination on the Eifelsteig and offers open views towards the Eifel. The Karl-Kaufmann Trail of the Eifel Association and the Eifelsteig adventure loop “Im Meulenwald” lead to the Kellerberg Tower. This gives you two distinct points of interest to plan around: the landscape views towards the Eifel and the tower as a named hiking destination.

A shelter on the edge of the forest

On the edge of the forest in Dierscheid is a shelter that can be rented by the day, about a five-minute walk from the village. It has covered seating, separate toilets, a covered barbecue area, parking, a camping area, and a play area. If you plan to use the shelter, check its availability and rental conditions before your trip.

The wider Bernkastel-Wittlich destination

The volcanic Eifel, romantic Moselle Valley, and the HunsrĂĽck, rich in forests and meadows, meet in the wider Bernkastel-Wittlich destination. At 816 metres, the Erbeskopf is a hiking destination and offers a variety of winter sports. At the Erbeskopf, the National Park Gate provides information about nature and the environment; an interactive multimedia exhibition focuses on forests and moors. Alongside nature experiences, the region therefore also has a dedicated place to find information on these topics.

Hiking and cycling

In Manderscheid, two medieval castle ruins stand opposite each other on steep rocky spurs above the Lieser. The Manderscheider Burgenstieg is a moderately difficult circular route around the castles, 5.4 kilometres long and listed as taking two hours. The Burgenklettersteig also goes around both castles, comprises three stages, and is about four kilometres long in total; one kilometre of it is secured with cables. The Burgweiher pond in the Lieser Valley on the outskirts of Manderscheid is also a protected natural monument.

For cyclists, the Maare-Mosel Cycle Path runs 58.5 kilometres from Daun to Bernkastel-Kues along a disused railway line. A bike bus takes cyclists from Bernkastel-Kues back to the starting point; the return journey can be booked in advance. If you are planning this route, factor the return journey into your plans and check the times beforehand.

Culture, history, and wine

The Maria Heimsuchung pilgrimage church in Klausen was consecrated in 1502; Klausen remains a destination for pilgrims every year. In Kues, the Cusanus Birthplace is used as a museum and event venue and has a permanent exhibition about Nicholas of Cusa. In the historic vaulted cellars of St. Nikolaus Hospital, a wine shop offers tastings of wines from the Moselle, Saar, and Ruwer. Its selection includes 100 wines, from quality wines to ice wine.

In Neumagen-Dhron, the Noviomagi Museum presents Roman history and displays original finds such as clay vessels and stone fragments from funerary monuments. An audio tour lasting about 45 minutes starts at the Neumagen-Dhron Tourist Information Office and follows an approximately 800-metre archaeological trail past historic sites, monuments, and finds. The STELLA NOVIOMAGI also departs from Neumagen-Dhron for a cruise on the Moselle. The Zylinderhaus presents 90 years of German automotive history and more than 100 cars, motorcycles, and vans.
