Feilbingert brings together hikes on the Lemberg with mining history and wine. To choose a route, it helps to compare them clearly: “Findet Lemi” is 3 kilometres long, the Feilbingert Panorama Trail is around 9 kilometres, and the “Geheimnisvoller Lemberg” Vital Tour is 13.5 kilometres. The routes also differ in character: a forest trail with a discovery challenge, a circular route for a range of activities, or a longer tour with panoramic views and mining relics.
Hiking Trails with Different Highlights
The 13.5-kilometre premium “Vitaltour Geheimnisvoller Lemberg” trail follows alpine paths and combines panoramic views with historic mining relics, the Schmittenstollen visitor mine and the Trombach Valley. The 3-kilometre family trail “Findet Lemi” runs through the forest and offers viewpoints; its discovery challenge is to find the hidden figure Lemi.
The Feilbingert Panorama Trail is an approximately 9-kilometre circular route for hiking, jogging, Nordic walking and cycling. The climbs are moderate. The route also has regular benches and rest areas, as well as good signage; it can be shortened to suit your plans. The three trails therefore differ not only in length, but also in their highlights and the activities available along the way.
Lemberg, Views and Getting Your Bearings
The Lemberg protected area, covering around 240 hectares, lies entirely within the boundaries of Feilbingert. On the way from Oberhausen to the Lemberg, you pass through oak-hornbeam forests; in spring, extensive patches of squill bloom there. This nature observation applies to the route between Oberhausen and the Lemberg.
The Rapunzel Tower can only be reached on foot, and the “Geheimnisvoller Lemberg” Vital Tour passes right by it. The observation tower has a spiral staircase and offers views towards Duchroth and Oberhausen an der Nahe. A picnic area is located in the building that formerly stood next to it. As access conditions may change, check them before your visit.
The XXL Panoramic Bench can also be used as a point of reference on a route: you can reach it via the K83, while the Panorama Trail passes directly by it. This gives you two specific landmarks to help plan your trip, without implying that the routes are the same.
Mining History and Local Culture
The earliest confirmed evidence of mercury mining on the Lemberg dates to 1469. Mining relics are also part of the Vital Tour; the Schmittenstollen is another destination connected with this history. Visitors interested in the local past can also find a small local history museum in the Museum Barn on Ringstraße, with agricultural equipment on display. If you plan to visit the museum, check current visiting arrangements in advance.
The Schmittenstollen can be reached by bicycle or car via the K83 towards the Lemberg. A hiking car park is around 700 metres from the entrance. The site includes a wine and beer garden serving regional specialities and drinks, a barbecue area and a mining-themed adventure playground. If you plan to visit these facilities, check their current availability in advance.
Wine and Another Cultural Highlight
Winemakers in Feilbingert offer tastings at wineries and wine stands; local inns serve wines from local producers. As the availability of tastings and participating businesses may change, check in advance what is on offer for your preferred date.
The wider destination of Bad Kreuznach has its own cultural highlights. The bridge houses in Bad Kreuznach were built from 1480 onwards due to a lack of space. These half-timbered buildings stand on the pillars of the old Nahe Bridge, which was built around 1300. Since 1985/86, Bad Kreuznach’s municipal museums have been housed in the listed former Bangert manor, set in a historic park.
