A short walking route around and through Flomborn forms a bird trail, with 14 interactive panels dedicated to local flora and fauna. The town hall, Protestant church and Flomborner Wutz also provide tangible links to the village’s history. This gives you a choice of both nature-related interests and historical traces when planning your trip.
Nature trail and landscape
Flomborn is almost completely surrounded by a green belt, which includes a bird trail, a pond and walking paths for local recreation. The bird trail follows a short walking route around and through the village. Its 14 interactive panels cover local flora and fauna; they also explore the habitats along the route and the bird species found there. The panels add topics for observation to the walk, while the focus on habitats and bird species also takes in the environments the route passes through.
The route and the condition of the panels may change. If you plan to visit the bird trail, check both on site.
Village character and history
The town hall stands in the old village centre, dates from 1765 and is a protected historic building. The Protestant parish church was extended into its current hall-style building in 1779. Its organ, made by the Stumm brothers’ workshop, was acquired in 1783 and is in demand as a concert instrument following its restoration. Gravestones from the 18th and 19th centuries stand in the churchyard.
The public sculpture Flomborner Wutz by Florian Geyer is linked to the historic weighing of livestock contributions. In the village centre, signs on historic buildings provide information and present local anecdotes, including the story of the Flomborner Wutz. As the condition of the signs may change, check on site if needed to see whether they are still easy to read.
Another point in time is the Neolithic burial ground near Flomborn. It is considered one of the important archaeological sites associated with the early farming culture of Central Europe. This extends the historical perspective beyond the visible buildings and objects to prehistoric times.
Leisure and getting here
The boules court is freely accessible; bring your own boules if you want to play. For the first bread-baking session at the Flomborn bakehouse, the wood-fired stone oven was heated for five hours until it reached baking temperature.
