There are 540 kilometres of marked hiking trails within the municipal area of Warstein. The stated total length may change if trails are revised. In Bilsteintal and around Lörmecketurm, the routes differ in their course, length and level of difficulty: they range from a very easy circular walk to trails with stated lengths of 6.3 and 16.5 kilometres.

Hiking in Bilsteintal and at Lörmecketurm

The Bilsteintal circular walk mostly follows unpaved paths on the WaldKulTour mining route. It is described as a very easy hike; seven information boards along the route explain mining in the forest. The walk is recommended as a lovely hike for families with children. Afterwards, you could visit the forest playground in Bilsteintal.

Hiking Trail 1 is 16.5 kilometres long and leads through Bilsteintal, Paradies and Hubertusquelle to Lörmecketurm, then on to the Lörmecketurm car park and Sedansteich. The 6.3-kilometre Hiking Trail 2 runs from the Lörmecketurm car park via Kapellenplatz to the tower. Another option is the moderately difficult Lörmecketurm circular hike: after about 2.5 kilometres, it passes the ITH XXL bench, and its destination is the 35-metre-high tower. This distance describes the approximate route to the bench, not the total length of the circular hike.

From Lörmecketurm, the panoramic view stretches across Hochsauerland, the Haarstrang and the Westphalian Bay as far as the Teutoburg Forest. The viewpoint gives the different hikes a clear destination. When planning, the stated route lengths and difficulty levels help you compare the options.

Red and sika deer, raccoons, foxes, wild boar and lynxes live in the Bilsteintal wildlife park; the animal population may change. For mountain biking, there is the 17.9-kilometre Bilsteintal circular route No. 47, with 269 metres of elevation gain. Thirty-six per cent of the route follows unpaved trails, while the rest runs along gravelled forestry roads. Trail conditions may vary. The information on distance, elevation gain and surface gives a specific idea of the route’s character, but does not replace a current assessment of conditions.

The Hillenberg climbing arena in Warstein offers routes on several rock faces for sport and alpine climbers, as well as active families and beginners. Grades range from 3 to 9. Another activity in Bilsteintal is the archery course: it is run by Bilsteintal e.V. and lies west of the wildlife park, beyond the L 735.
