Langenberg combines a historic townscape with public art and views across the region. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first decide what you want your stay to focus on: should Langenberg itself be the main focus, or would you also like to include other destinations within the wider Velbert travel area?

Old Town Between Lanes and Villas

The historic townscape includes cobblestones and winding lanes as well as slate and half-timbered houses. Terraced streets and stairways shape the old town, complemented by a ring of historic industrialists’ villas. These different elements offer several ways to view the town: façades and architectural styles on the one hand, streetscapes and stairways on the other. Those interested in architecture can therefore take in not only individual buildings but also how they work together with the lanes and terraced streets. This makes the old town as a whole interesting, not just individual houses.

Sculpture Trail Through the Old Town and Parks

Since 2024, the Langenberg Sculpture Trail has formed a continuous three-kilometre route through the historic old town and neighbouring parks. More than 25 sculptures and cultural venues are incorporated into the route. The trail thus connects public art with the historic townscape and parkland. If you like to shape your visit around a theme, you can make the route your focus on art while also taking in the different settings it passes through.

Culture in Different Settings

ALLDIEKUNST in central Langenberg offers another kind of cultural experience. The venue uses the premises of a former supermarket and presents music, cabaret and small-scale theatre. Access is barrier-free. Its stage performances differ from the sculptures along the trail: here, the focus is on a venue, while there it is on art in the urban environment and neighbouring parks. The two offerings appeal to different interests, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one cultural perspective.

Landmarks and Views Across the Region

The Langenberg transmitter began operating in 1927 and is now a landmark. Nearby, the Bismarck Tower on Hordtberg offers views across the region. Both landmarks offer something different from the old town and cultural venues: the transmitter brings a historical connection, while the tower offers a vantage point. This distinction can be helpful when planning if you would like to include the landscape alongside architecture and culture.

Velbert as the Wider Travel Area

The pilgrimage site of Velbert-Neviges is located within the wider Velbert travel area. Since 1681, people have made pilgrimages to the image of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, now housed in Neviges Pilgrimage Cathedral. This religious focus adds another reason to explore Velbert alongside the cultural and natural themes you can discover in Langenberg.

The hiking trails also span the wider Velbert travel area. The Neanderlandsteig is 240 kilometres long in total, with five stages passing through Velbert’s varied landscape. Officially opened in June 2023, the DeilbachSteig links Essen, Hattingen and Velbert on a circular hike of around 33 kilometres. The figures differ in terms of scale and route type: one refers to the total length and stages through Velbert, while the other describes a circular hike connecting three cities.
