In Dörentrup, nature watching, landscapes and history come together: you can observe wildlife, learn about bees and tree species, explore hiking trails of varying difficulty, or discover historic buildings and everyday village life in times gone by. The trails and sights each have a different focus, ranging from natural history and archaeological history to Weser Renaissance architecture.
Observe and understand nature
The Schwelentrup wildlife observation station invites you to watch deer and other wildlife from a hide. The Schwelentrup Bee Discovery Trail explains the ecological importance of bees. At the bee house, you can see a mini bee colony in an observation hive and learn about the daily life of two bee colonies. Guided tours with beekeepers are available; you can book a guided tour with a forester on the Tree Discovery Trail. Check current availability in advance if you plan to join a tour.
On the Schwelentrup Tree Discovery Trail, visitors identify 44 numbered tree species between Schwelentrup and Sternberg Castle. The NABU nature trail complements this experience with seven information boards about the landscape, nature, flora and fauna. It offers views of Schwelentrup and passes the sika deer enclosure. This brings together distinct nature topics: observing animals, understanding the ecological importance of bees and identifying tree species.

The three routes are of similar length, but have different stated difficulty ratings. As trail conditions can vary, check them before setting out.
