Two different hiking routes pass through Hohn: the official hiking trail No. 2 is part of the route to the Erft spring; the EifelSchleife “Pfaffenbusch and Gotteswald” passes through Hohn after Kolvenbach. This gives you a clear choice when planning your hike: one trail continues towards the Erft spring, while the other is a circular route. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can use your planned hike as one point of reference when planning your trip.
Trail No. 2 to the Erft spring
Hiking trail No. 2 leads to Hohn from the direction of Nöthen and Kolvenbach. In the village, it follows Karpfenstraße. It then continues along a meadow path below the houses and into the forest. This route therefore connects a clearly named section through the village with the continuation into the countryside. If you are planning a hike to the Erft spring, you can distinguish this trail from the EifelSchleife: this route is directed towards the Erft spring, while the Schleife forms a circular route.
On the EifelSchleife “Pfaffenbusch and Gotteswald”
After Kolvenbach, the EifelSchleife passes through Hohn. Near both the beginning and the end of the route, sections of the Way of St. James also follow the trail. Check the local trail signs before setting off. There is a shelter at the highest point of the loop, where you can take a short break. Gotteswald is also part of the route; it is used for woodland burials. The route therefore combines its trail sections with a specific rest stop and a forest that is also used for burials.
Getting there and starting point
For the EifelSchleife, the car park is on Hohner Weg or KarpfenstraĂźe, 53902 Bad MĂĽnstereifel. As parking arrangements may change, check before travelling. Access to the circular route by bus is also described: bus 824 runs towards Nettersheim, Tondorf Spielstr. From the Hohn Kolvenbach stop (Bad MĂĽnstereifel), it is about a 20-minute walk to the starting point. Check the bus connection before travelling; the walking time is approximate.
Hiking in the wider Bad MĂĽnstereifel destination
The wider Bad Münstereifel destination has several hundred kilometres of quality-marked hiking trails. These include the Münstereifelsteig, the Kneipp hiking trail and the Kräuterpfad. Three Eifelspuren are highlighted: the Kneipp hiking trail, the Münstereifelsteig and the Kräuterpfad. In addition, the area has 13 Eifelschleifen, with tours of varying levels of difficulty. These regional options provide another planning framework alongside the two routes that specifically pass through Hohn. If you are weighing up different hikes for your stay, you can consider the local routes separately from the wider choice in the Bad Münstereifel destination.
Local history and culture in Bad MĂĽnstereifel
The memorial in Hohn is dedicated to those killed or missing in both world wars and was inaugurated on 16 October 1966. A report from August 2023 describes a wreath-laying at the memorial during Hohn’s fair day in remembrance of those killed in both world wars, and calls it an important tradition.
The wider Bad Münstereifel destination also has historical cultural attractions: architectural monuments in Bad Münstereifel’s old town include the Romanesque collegiate church, the Gothic town hall and the Baroque Windeckhaus. The Roman lime kiln at Iversheim has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Lower Germanic Limes since 2021. These places and buildings belong to the wider destination, not to Hohn.
