Woffelsbach combines an internationally renowned, challenging sailing area with boat trips on Lake Rursee, summer swimming and trails through stream valleys. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose the focus of your stay: water activities, hikes or a mix of both will give your visit a different feel.

Sailing, Boat Trips and Swimming

The Rurseeschifffahrt operates its fleet on Lake Rursee, stopping at Woffelsbach. The landing stage can be used as a starting point for a boat trip across the lake. You can combine a trip with a hike before or afterwards. If you plan to do both, check the current timetable to make sure the departure time fits your day.

The swimming area in Woffelsbacher Bay is located directly in the lake and marked off with yellow buoys. On hot summer days, the bay is considered a bathing area. Swimming conditions and safety measures may vary by season; check the latest notices before swimming. During the season, canoes, kayaks, SUP boards and pedal boats can be rented at the NaBeDi camp in Woffelsbacher Bay. Check availability for your travel dates.

Village Walk and Protected Landscape

The Woffelsbach village walk is about 2.2 kilometres long and takes approximately one hour. The 5-Bäche-Tour leads through an unspoilt landscape of streams, stream meadows and floodplain forests, which are protected because of their rare animal and plant species. There are therefore two different points to consider when choosing: the approximate duration of the village walk and the protected stream landscape along the 5-Bäche-Tour.

The 140-hectare Schilsbachtal nature reserve is located in the surrounding area of Woffelsbach, northeast of the village on Lake Rursee. The reserve includes wooded slopes descending towards the Rurtalsperre, as well as springs, natural stream sections, wet and damp grassland, floodplain forests and natural rock formations. The protected area helps preserve habitats for endangered plant and animal species and safeguard the otter’s range. The lakeside platform in Woffelsbach is located directly by the lake and provides a resting place for breaks while hiking or cycling.

Chapel and Village Traditions

The Wendelinus Chapel was built in 1911 as a branch church of the Rurberg parish. The Wendelinus fair is also one of Woffelsbach’s traditional event highlights, adding a cultural dimension to the village.

At the Einruhr natural swimming pool, chlorine and chemicals are completely avoided; used water is biologically treated in a reed bed. The Rurberg National Park Gate in Simmerath features the “Lifelines of Nature” exhibition, a digital terrain model of the national park and national park films. Free guided tours of the Kermeter forests depart from there. As dates may change, check them before planning your visit.
