In Seebad Bansin, distinctive resort architecture, cultural attractions and coastal features are all in focus. Those choosing the town for a stay can explore these different highlights: preserved streetscapes, a long promenade, the steep coast and Lake Schloon.

Resort Architecture and Culture in Bansin

Entire streets of elaborately restored resort architecture have been preserved in Bansin. These include the elegant beach promenade and Bergstraße, with its numerous villas and hotels. Bansin Forest Church was consecrated on February 12, 1939. It is the youngest Protestant church on the island of Usedom and also serves as an event venue. In 2000, the former fire station on Bansin’s Waldstraße was inaugurated as a literary center dedicated to the writer Hans Werner Richter.

The Kaiserbäder Experience Trail offers a way to discover the history of the Kaiserbäder resorts and their famous visitors, using 31 oak steles and a companion app. The concert pavilion in Bansin is the smallest and also the oldest concert stage of the three Kaiserbäder resorts. During the summer months, concerts and other events are held at the music pavilion by the main beach access on Bansin promenade; individual events may vary.

The Haus des Gastes also brings together several cultural attractions: it houses the tourist information office, a gallery for art exhibitions and a hall for concerts, readings and other cultural events. The program changes. The annual Bansin Pier Festival, held in summer, features a market along the beach promenade selling handcrafted goods and regional fish dishes, as well as live concerts. Program details vary from year to year.

Promenade, Cycling Routes and the Baltic Coast

The 12-kilometer beach promenade connects the Kaiserbäder resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin and extends to Poland. The promenade in Bansin is also part of the Baltic Coast Cycle Route and the Berlin–Usedom Cycle Route. Both the link between the seaside resorts and the long-distance cycling routes shape the way Bansin is experienced.

Bansin’s steep coast begins at the northwestern end of the promenade in the direction of Ückeritz and offers views over the Baltic Sea. The Berlin–Usedom Cycle Route passes by Langer Berg. At 54 meters above sea level, it is the highest point on Bansin’s steep coast. During the summer months, lifeguards supervise Bansin beach.

Bansin Pier is 285 meters long. Passengers can board Adler-Reederei ships there for trips to nearby seaside resorts, the island of Rügen or Świnoujście (Swinemünde) in Poland. Operators and routes may change, so check which destinations are available before your visit.

Lake Schloon and Other Excursion Destinations

Lake Schloon, covering about 14 hectares, lies east of Bansin and extends in the direction of Heringsdorf as far as Sackkanal. Sackkanal runs from Lake Gothen to the Baltic Sea. Lake Schloon formed during the last ice age and is three meters deep on average. It is also linked to the region in literature: Theodor Fontane mentions it in his novel “Effi Briest.”

Bansin Tropical Zoo can be reached by bicycle, bus, train, the Kaiserbäder Express or car. As transport services and stop regulations may change, check your route in advance.

A Closer Look at Heringsdorf

Heringsdorf also offers its own cultural and historical attractions. Heringsdorf Pier was named Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge in 1891 and extended in 1902/03 with the addition of the so-called Odin Bridge. Villa Irmgard in Heringsdorf houses a local history museum and a memorial to the Russian writer Maxim Gorky.
