Grambow offers two distinct perspectives for a stay: the 13th-century village church and cycling tours that start or end in Grambow. The surrounding hilly landscape and an overview of the municipality and the wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald round out the picture. For travel planning, these aspects can be considered separately: the village itself, other parts of the municipality and regional themes each offer their own focus.
Cycling from Grambow
The manor house route starts at Grambow railway station. The “East of the Randowbruch” cycling route is about 49 km long, of moderate difficulty, and starts and ends in Grambow. This provides two different planning options: a named starting point and a circular route with an approximate length and difficulty level. The second route leads back to its starting point. Check current route conditions before setting off.
Village Church and Landscape
Grambow Village Church is a hall church built in the 13th century from neatly coursed fieldstone blocks. Its architectural form, materials and date provide a tangible connection to the village’s history. The watershed between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea also runs through the hilly area around Grambow. A watershed marks how water flows are divided between different seas; this geographical feature is located in the area around Grambow.
Other Places in the Municipality of Grambow
The municipality’s other districts also have their own points of interest. The furnishings of Sonnenberg Village Church include an altar with an enclosure dating from the 18th century, a pulpit from the first half of the 18th century, an octagonal wooden baptismal font and an organ built by Barnim Grüneberg in 1894. In both Ladenthin and Schwennenz, there is a 13th-century fieldstone church that is more or less well preserved. The municipality’s natural monuments include the Hägesee nature reserve and the bogs near Neu-Grambow.
Vorpommern-Greifswald: Culture and Nature on a Broader Scale
The wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald adds other, different types of destinations to the local picture. The Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald displays the Croy Tapestry, dating from 1554, a unique cultural and historical artefact from the Reformation era. In Anklam, the Otto Lilienthal Museum is dedicated to aviation pioneer, mechanical engineer and humanist Otto Lilienthal in his home town; it is a museum devoted to a historical figure with a focus on technology. These examples offer different emphases: a dated work of art and historical artefact in one case, and a museum dedicated to a historical figure in the other. The UeckermĂĽnde Heath is ideal for hiking, cycling and horse riding. The Juliett U-461 is moored in PeenemĂĽnde harbour as a museum and can be explored on a tour. Check the current access regulations in advance. Three nature parks cover almost 40 percent of the area of Vorpommern-Greifswald district.
