A simple Neo-Gothic brick building, a late medieval ornamental gable and a manor house dating from 1892 add historical and cultural interest to Dersekow. At the same time, the Schwingetal valley and numerous forests are part of the municipality’s natural landscape. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between architectural history and nature as distinct, concrete themes.

Chapel and village church

The chapel in Alt Pansow, a district of Dersekow, was built in 1841/42 to plans by Carl August Peter Menzel, the University of Greifswald’s master builder. It is a simple Neo-Gothic brick building, and its original interior furnishings have been preserved to this day. The chapel’s architectural form and preserved interior give it a distinctive historical and cultural character.

Following the renovation completed in 2013, the chapel’s interior—which Sil Zobel decorated in colour according to her own designs—hosted concerts and film screenings in summer.

The east gable of Dersekow village church is a distinctive architectural feature: it was built as an ornamental gable towards the end of the 15th century. The term draws attention to the decorated gable end and adds the feature’s purpose to its historical context.

Klein Zastrow and the natural landscape

The megalithic tomb in Klein Zastrow is one of Dersekow’s attractions and is considered a highlight for history enthusiasts. The tomb and the Zastrow female figurine are archaeological finds that provide evidence of early settlement in the region. They offer a different perspective on the past from the church and manor house.

Klein Zastrow Manor House was built in 1892 by the von Vahl family in the Neoclassical style; the von Vahl family coat of arms can be seen on the manor house. Its construction date, architectural style and family coat of arms offer different ways to appreciate the building.

Dersekow’s natural landscape includes the Schwingetal valley and numerous forests, which are highlighted as a natural setting for nature lovers. Alongside architectural and settlement history, the landscape is therefore another distinct focus to consider when planning a trip.

The wider region: Vorpommern-Greifswald

Those looking beyond Dersekow to the wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald will find further cultural and landscape attractions there. In Greifswald, the Pomeranian State Museum displays the Croy Tapestry of 1554, a unique historical and cultural artefact from the Reformation era. In Anklam, the Otto Lilienthal Museum, a technical museum dedicated to an individual, is devoted to aviation pioneer, mechanical engineer and humanist Otto Lilienthal; Anklam is his home town. The Juliett U-461 is docked in PeenemĂĽnde harbour as a museum and can be explored on a tour.

Nature and cycling can also be explored across the district. The UeckermĂĽnde Heath is ideal for hiking, cycling and horse riding. The Baltic Sea Cycle Route, part of the EuroVelo EV10 route, passes through the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. The Stettiner Haff Circular Route and the Route of North German Romanticism are among the regional cycle routes for exploring the district.

Another regional option is a culinary tour of Greifswald’s historic old town. It takes visitors to four Greifswald eateries offering sweet and savoury treats.

When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide first what you would like to focus on: Dersekow itself, or the wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald?
