Boldekow combines a medieval village church with Baroque redesign and a distinctive baptismal font story. In the municipality it belongs to, Zinzow—with its historic manor estate—and Putzar, with its church and manor house history, add cultural highlights. This takes you from the building in Boldekow to other historic sites in the municipality.

Village Church and Baptismal Font in Boldekow

Boldekow’s village church is originally medieval and was redesigned in the Baroque style during its reconstruction. It also has a half-timbered tower. When the church foundations were uncovered, the base and basin of a medieval baptismal font were found. Both parts had previously served as the foundation beneath two gallery pillars. In a 2015 article, an expert estimated that the font dated to 1320. This year is explicitly an estimate, not a definitive date. The medieval origins, Baroque redesign, and former use of the font’s parts thus represent different chapters in the church’s history.

Accommodation and Manor History in Zinzow

For stays within the municipality, the historic manor estate in Zinzow offers five holiday apartments, as well as a coachman’s house and a gardener’s house. Check availability directly with the operator before travelling. At the heart of the estate is a Neo-Baroque manor house, built around the turn of the century and formerly the family residence of the Counts of Schwerin.

The working horse stable also tells the story of the manor estate: it is the estate’s oldest building and dates from the 18th century. Today, it houses a large collection of historic carriages, which can be viewed. Zinzow thus combines accommodation on a historic estate with a distinctive architectural and collection-history theme.

Markets and Regional Produce

Twice a year, the manor estate provides the setting for the annual lily-of-the-valley market and the annual St. Martin’s market. Cultural events such as Kunst:Offen and Open Monument Day are also held there regularly. If you would like to plan your trip around a market or event, check the dates for your intended travel year.

At the manor distillery in Zinzow, regional fruit is handcrafted into fruit brandies, spirits and liqueurs. Product availability may vary. This adds an insight into the processing of regional fruit to the estate’s historical themes, without implying that a specific visit or tasting is offered.

Manor House Ruins and Church in Putzar

In Putzar, Schloss Putzar refers to the ruins of two manor houses surrounded by a landscaped park. The park was laid out according to plans by garden director Ferdinand Jühlke. The older Ulrich building began to fall into ruin as early as the 18th century. The ruins and park form a distinct focus within the historic landscape of the municipality.

The church in Putzar was built in 1560 under Ulrich von Schwerin. Its features include a wooden-beam ceiling with figurative and ornamental painting in the Baroque style of the 17th century, as well as a large 17th-century pulpit altar, which is a Renaissance work. The organ gallery dates from 1721 and is supported by four black figures. The pulpit itself is also richly decorated with carvings and oil paintings depicting scenes from the Passion. Alongside the manor house ruins, Putzar thus offers its own church history shaped over several centuries.
