An organ from 1722 and a carved altar dating from around 1500 give Cammin’s village church two distinctive historical points of interest. The community also offers extensive hiking along the Recknitz and the Stegendiecksbach. These provide two different focal points for planning a visit: architectural history and outdoor activity. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether the church, other historic buildings, or longer trails should shape your stay.

Cammin Village Church

Cammin Village Church is a rectangular fieldstone building with dressed corner blocks. It contains a carved altar dating from around 1500. The organ was built in 1722 by Lübeck organ builder H. Hantelmann, a pupil of A. Schnitger. The same church thus houses two furnishings from markedly different centuries: the altar dates from around 1500, while the organ was made in the early 18th century. This provides a specific point of comparison between the two periods alongside the building’s architectural style. The dressed corner blocks also draw attention to the design of the rectangular fieldstone building.

Churches and Manor Houses in the Community

The municipality of Cammin also includes historic buildings in other localities, which should be distinguished from the settlement of the same name. Weitendorf bei Cammin is home to the smallest church in the Rostock district: its floor area measures 16 by 8 metres. It was first mentioned in an account book in 1503. The church is built mainly from granite boulders; brick is used in the upper part of the west gable and in sections of the masonry. A wooden Baroque pulpit with a whale as its base is another distinctive feature. Compared with Cammin Village Church, this church adds a precisely stated floor area, details about the distribution of materials, and an unusual pulpit.

The manor houses are also located in different places within the community. The estate manager’s house associated with Cammin Manor was built at the end of the 19th century. Cammin Manor’s main building was renovated on the initiative of a support association. In Wohrenstorf, the manor house was built between 1732 and 1735; its façade was renovated in 2014. The house is privately owned. Surviving features include original stucco elements on all the ceilings, the foyer, and most of the doors and their surrounds. The manor house also includes the remains of a landscaped garden.

Hiking and the RĂĽbenbahntour SĂĽd

The municipality of Cammin is well suited to extended hikes along the Recknitz and the Stegendiecksbach. Trail conditions can vary. Another point of reference is the RĂĽbenbahntour SĂĽd, which passes through Cammin, where Station 10 is located. Unlike the hikes along the waterways, this route has a specific location marked by a named station in the village. Before setting out, check the current route signs and surface conditions.

To choose a focus for your visit, it helps to distinguish between the places and their attractions: Cammin Village Church brings together a fieldstone building, an altar, and an organ; Weitendorf and Wohrenstorf add to the community’s architectural history. Those who prefer longer hikes can follow routes along the Recknitz and the Stegendiecksbach. The Rübenbahntour Süd offers another distinct point of reference for planning your trip.
