The Gothic chapel, dating from 1342, is Mistorf’s landmark. Together with the railway station and memorial sites, it provides concrete points of reference for planning a trip. In the municipality, Käselow and Goldewin add architectural history and events to the picture.

Chapel, memorial sites and railway station

A war graves memorial in the cemetery surrounding the chapel commemorates those who fell in the First World War. Another war memorial is located by the village pond on Schwaaner Straße. The locations clearly distinguish the two memorial sites: one is by the cemetery at the chapel, the other by the village pond.

There are bicycle parking spaces at Mistorf railway station. The station is unstaffed, and mobility assistance is not available there. As station facilities may change, it is best to check that bicycle parking is available before travelling. If travelling by train, you should also bear in mind that there is no staff at the station to provide mobility assistance.

Architectural history and events in the municipality

Käselow and Goldewin are also part of the municipality of Mistorf. Käselow is home to the manor house, whose present form dates back to around 1870. It is listed as a historic building, has been renovated and is now privately owned. The manor house is an example of the architectural history of the municipality; the chapel and manor house represent different historical themes.

In Goldewin, the clubhouse of the Goldewiner Kulturtreff e.V. has a hall with a stage for up to 120 people. On Ascension Day, the association holds a family day there, which has become a longstanding tradition in Goldewin. The Kulturtreff has also made the plant swap in Goldewin a regular highlight since spring 2011. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these dates, check the exact date and participation options with the association in advance.

More to discover in the wider Rostock destination

The wider Rostock destination offers additional nature and culture experiences. In Sternberg Lake District Nature Park, the landscape features deeply incised breakthrough valleys along the Warnow, lakes, hills and extensive forests; the park is particularly well suited to hiking and cycling. At Wildpark-MV, visitors can explore the park on their own or join guided walks, including wolf, owl and evening walks. Nature exploration and wildlife watching offer different interests to choose from for a longer trip.

Another cultural option is the Wolhynian Resettlers Museum in Linstow. Tours for groups and individuals use ethnographic objects, photographs and documents to tell the story of the Volhynian Germans, from the mid-19th century to their settlement in Mecklenburg after the Second World War. The historic Molli narrow-gauge railway runs between Kühlungsborn and Bad Doberan and is the oldest narrow-gauge railway on the Baltic coast. With its 900-millimetre gauge, it has shaped the local landscape since 1886.

Getting around the region

Buses and trains operate in the Rostock district as part of the transport network. With one ticket, holidaymakers can travel throughout the region, including the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock. For specific connections, it is advisable to check the timetables. As a broad guide to the road network, the A19 enters Rostock district from the south and intersects there with the A20, which runs from west to east.
