An observation platform, a farm shop with working oil presses and Café Landliebe give Hohen Schönberg a varied character. Cycling, farm life, art and listed buildings offer a range of ways to shape your stay.

Cycle to the observation platform

The easy “Weite Blicke” cycling tour starts in Klütz; Hohen Schönberg lies along the route. It leads via Grundshagen to the Hoher Schönberg organic farm and on to the observation platform. The tour is about 42 kilometres long and takes approximately three hours. The platform is on the highest elevation in Klützer Winkel, about 90 metres above sea level. From there, the view stretches far across the landscape and the Baltic Sea. It is free to access and is one of the sights in the municipality of Kalkhorst.

Another cycling route, “Raubritter und Galgenvögel,” passes the observation platform near the Hoher Schönberg farm. From there, you can enjoy views across Lübeck Bay. “Weite Blicke” can be planned around its route and approximate duration, while “Raubritter und Galgenvögel” offers its own scenic highlight with views across Lübeck Bay. This lets you plan your cycling day around either the time available or the specifically named panoramic view.

Farm life and Café Landliebe

The Hoher Schönberg organic farm is partly run as a museum farm, following historical models. At the farm shop, visitors can watch four raw-food oil presses at work and see freshly pressed oils made from seeds and nuts. The offering combines the oil presses with an insight into how seeds and nuts are processed.

Café Landliebe serves homemade cakes and tortes. A SIKU Control miniature landscape covering around 90 m² features original radio-controlled vehicles. For children’s birthday parties, the café offers a dedicated SIKU race, cake made to order and a special birthday package for young guests.

Art and listed buildings

At the SeelenWiege exhibition, visitors can try out the hanging loungers and get advice about them. Galerie Mooin combines an exhibition with a sculpture park. The offerings differ in format: at SeelenWiege, the focus is on trying out the hanging loungers and getting advice; at Mooin, it is on the combination of an exhibition and a sculpture park.

Hohen Schönberg’s listed buildings include the school at Kalkhorster Straße 17 and the barn at Kalkhorster Straße 17a. The listed farm complex at Kalkhorster Straße 2 comprises a hall house, a barn and a former horse stable. Alongside the art offerings, several named buildings are therefore part of the local cultural heritage.

Lenorenwald and the landscape

The Lenorenwald protected landscape area also includes Hohen Schönberg in the north. Two giant sequoias stand in Lenorenwald, south of the “Hoher Schönberg” elevation. The trees are therefore south of the elevation, while the observation platform is on the highest elevation in Klützer Winkel. The cycling route, farm offerings, art and protected landscape area each provide a different focus when deciding what to explore during your stay.
