Dechow, with the districts of Röggelin and Lankow, lies on the southern edge of the 177-hectare Röggeliner See. In the village and its immediate surroundings, you can experience different sides of the destination: a bathing area by the lake, a circular trail by Borgmoor and traces of the village’s history. This lets you choose different priorities when planning your trip, rather than trying to fit every experience into a fixed sightseeing itinerary.

Röggeliner See and the Moor & Koppel hiking trail

The Moor & Koppel hiking trail is a circular route about 3 km long, running along Borgmoor near Dechow. It starts at the Gläserne Molkerei car park, Meiereiweg 1, 19217 Dechow. The approximate length and named starting point give you practical guidance if you would like to include a walk in your day’s plans.

A bathing area with a jetty on Röggeliner See invites you to take a break and enjoy a picnic. The lake is also designated as a protected resting area for migratory birds, including greylag geese, grey herons and various species of duck. The bathing area and the protected area thus highlight different aspects of the same lake: a place to take a break and an area designated for resting birds.

The area along Borgmoor near Dechow also has its own connection to nature. It is a habitat for dragonflies, grasshoppers, the rare hazel dormouse, cranes and other rare bird species. Cranes and other rare bird species raise their young there. The moor trail and the landscape around Röggeliner See therefore represent different aspects of nature that you can distinguish when choosing your activities.

Village walk and historic houses

Dechow has preserved brick houses and half-timbered houses with thatched roofs. They have been restored in accordance with heritage conservation requirements, using regional materials such as wood, clay and reeds. The different construction methods and materials give the village its distinctive architectural character, while the village walk draws attention to the history of individual properties.

Small information boards and QR codes in front of 19 houses and one undeveloped plot provide information about the history of these properties. The walk thus connects individual buildings and plots with their respective local histories. Anyone interested in Dechow beyond the lake and natural areas will find a different way to discover the village here.

Cultural venue and a practical note

Werderhaus has an Art Nouveau hall and a stage. It serves as a meeting place for social gatherings and a cultural venue for all generations. Alongside the preserved houses and historical walk, this communal cultural venue is another part of life in Dechow.

Gläserne Molkerei opened a second location in Dechow in 2012, in the Schaalsee UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Gläserne Molkerei farm shop in Dechow is permanently closed. As this status may change, check again before your visit. The hiking trail starts at the dairy car park; the closed farm shop is a separate offering.
