In Sietow, a stay by the water, a circular hike and village culture can be explored as distinct highlights. Sietow-Dorf lies directly on the Müritz and has a beach; the Sietower Wandelweg offers a longer and a shorter circular route. The church, Erzählkirche and harbor festival add architecture, stories and an annual event to the picture.

Shore, Harbor and Festival

The modern harbor in Sietow has a rest area for waterway travelers. The harbor also invites visitors to take boat trips and go fishing. At the harbor restaurants, fishermen serve freshly caught and smoked fish. If you plan to dine at a restaurant, it is worth checking the establishment’s current offerings.

The harbor festival takes place every year on the last weekend of July, lasts two days and is considered a cherished tradition. If the festival is important to your trip, check the dates for your chosen year before making plans.

Hiking and Cycling

The Sietower Wandelweg is about 9 km long, follows the shape of a sideways figure eight and returns to the starting point. At the junction by Station 10 (Lemniscate), there is a shorter 6 km circular route option that leads back to the village. The two options therefore differ both in length and in their stated return point. The Wandelweg follows easy-to-walk paths through fields, woods and meadows.

A route for longer cycling trips is also mentioned: the Müritz Cycle Route allows cyclists to ride through the landscape. Alongside the walking route, this places different ways of getting around in the spotlight, without assuming a fixed itinerary for the day.

Church and Storytelling Tradition

The Sietow church is an early Gothic fieldstone building. Its description gives visitors interested in architectural history two specific points of reference: its early Gothic classification and its building material. At the Erzählkirche, visitors can listen to and tell biblical stories, life stories, legends, fairy tales and sagas. The cultural offerings thus range from exploring a historic architectural style to sharing stories.

Nature in the Mecklenburg Lake District

The Müritz National Park offers a distinct nature experience within the wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District. It is characterized by forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows. Its hiking trail explores the national park’s landscape types and distinctive features in nine stages: it passes lakes, runs through primeval forests, goes by inland dunes and reaches the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer educational tours there, including guided walks in the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest of Serrahn and tours from the water.

The Damerower Werder bison reserve is also located in the Mecklenburg Lake District, on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin and in the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Visitors can observe bison there. The reserve also has a forest adventure trail with climbing opportunities, an ant house, an exhibition with tactile and visual panels, and a dendrophone.
