Userin brings together water, local history and a marked pilgrimage route as three distinct themes. Lake Useriner See lies on the eastern shore of Userin and is part of MĂĽritz National Park. When choosing where to stay, you can weigh up whether swimming and fishing, a stretch of trail or the small half-timbered church is the deciding factor.
Lake Useriner See: Swimming and Fishing
Lake Useriner See is about four kilometres long and one kilometre wide. The bathing area in the village of Userin was redesigned in 2013 and has an extensive non-swimmer area. If you want to fish, fishing in Lake Useriner See in the village of Userin is permitted from a boat, from existing built structures and at open points along the shore.
On the Pilgrimage Route
The Userin–Wesenberg section of the pilgrimage route is about 12.5 kilometres long. It runs from Userin’s half-timbered church along the paved Groß Quassower Weg towards Groß Quassow and is marked with an M. You can also choose to reach the pilgrimage route to Userin via a hiking trail along Lake Useriner See. When choosing your route, direction matters: the section starting at the church leads towards Groß Quassow, while the lakeside trail is one way to reach Userin.
Half-Timbered Church and Bell
The small church in Userin stands on a hill, is built in the half-timbered style and was consecrated in 1778. The bronze bell in the free-standing bell tower dates from 1747, 31 years before the church was consecrated. The church invites visitors to spend time in quiet reflection and prayer, and is also considered a venue for concerts. If you are planning to attend a concert, check the date in advance.
The Mecklenburg Lake District: The Wider Setting
In the wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District, MĂĽritz National Park shapes a landscape of forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows. The MĂĽritz National Park Hiking Trail explores this landscape in nine stages, passing lakes, through ancient forests, by inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through the national park, including guided walks in the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest of Serrahn and tours from the water. The nine-stage hiking trail therefore represents a different scale of trip planning from the pilgrimage route section near Userin.
Another nature attraction in the Mecklenburg Lake District is the Damerower Werder bison reserve. It lies on a peninsula in Lake Kölpinsee, within Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. You can watch the animals there; the forest adventure trail features climbing opportunities, an anthill house, an exhibition with touch-and-see panels and a dendrophone. The national park hiking trail is an itinerary divided into stages, while the reserve offers wildlife watching and a forest adventure trail.
