In today’s manor park in Pleetz lies a Slavic rampart dating from the early Slavic period of the 8th or 9th century. In Salow stands the fieldstone church from 1308, the oldest building in the present-day municipal area. This gives local history two distinct points of reference: archaeological traces in Pleetz and a building in Salow with a precise date.
Manor Houses, Churches and Local History
The former castle in Pleetz is now a manor house. It was first mentioned in 1366 and was a knight’s estate in the mid-14th century. The Pleetz estate was also connected to the hereditary office of Land Marshal of the Lordship of Stargard. Until the end of the monarchy, a member of the Hahn family held this office for nearly 450 years.
Sadelkow Manor House was built in the first half of the 18th century and remodelled in the early 20th century. In Roga, the church dates from the early 14th century; the landscape park and the steward’s house, built in 1890, remain from the Roga estate. Roga Manor House is privately owned. If you plan to visit, please check in advance whether a visit is possible.
The former manor house in Salow now houses the village centre, with a community centre, youth club, restaurant, ceramics workshop and local history room. If you wish to visit any of these facilities specifically, please check visiting arrangements in advance.
Trails and Scenic Spots
Two different descriptions are useful for outings in Salow. The Poetensteig runs alongside the pond in Salow Manor Park; its route, restored in 1991, has been resurfaced. A walking or cycling tour starts at the Salow granary, passes Klosterkoppel and continues to Schwarzer See. The meeting point and starting point for the walk is the granary; parking is available there for cars and bicycles. For the Poetensteig, the pond in the manor park is the specific point of reference; the tour from the Salow granary has a named sequence of stops—Klosterkoppel and Schwarzer See—and can be done on foot or by bicycle.
Another specific scenic spot is Zieglersee. On a walk from Salow into Salow Forest in the direction of Beseritz, it lies in the middle of a field and can only be reached on foot across the field. The tour from the granary is also intended for cycling; access to Zieglersee, by contrast, is only on foot across the field.
According to the cadastral maps, a total of 9.7 kilometres of the Datze within the municipal area is divided among Sadelkow/Bassow with 3.3 kilometres, Roga with 3.5 kilometres, Pleetz with 0.4 kilometres and Salow with 2.5 kilometres. Roga therefore has the longest of the four sections listed, and Pleetz the shortest.
When looking for a holiday apartment in Datzetal, it is worth deciding first what you want to focus on: churches and manor-house history, a route alongside a pond or an outing to a lake will each lead to a different day’s plans. Then choose the specific location of your accommodation based on the places you would like to include.
