Waldbad Probst Jesar is located on the eastern shore of a lake in Probst Jesar. Probst Jesar is a district east of Lübtheen and south of Hagenow. For trip planning, Lübtheen offers two distinct themes: the lakeshore, with rowing and pedal boat rentals, and the landscape of Lübtheener Heide. Boat rental operations may vary by season; check the conditions before your visit if you plan to rent a boat.

Lübtheener Heide: Dunes and Open Areas

Lübtheener Heide covers 1,400 hectares of open inland shifting dunes and extensive heathland. Since 2015, it has been part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve River Landscape Elbe Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Its size makes clear that the heath is more than a single trail: the Heideweg is a specific circular route, while Lübtheener Heide refers to the wider landscape. This distinction is useful when planning, whether you are choosing a particular route or focusing on the landscape as a broader nature destination.

The Heideweg: Circular Route and Season

The Heideweg is an approximately 8 km circular trail that starts at the Waldbad Probst Jesar car park in Lübtheen. Open heathland with silver grass and pine trees shapes its route. Late summer is especially recommended, when common heather is in full bloom; the flowering period can vary from year to year. Along the way, there is a covered seating area and an information board, both useful for taking a break and finding your bearings. Its approximate length and circular route make it easier to choose a walk; the heather bloom offers a seasonal consideration as well.

Trails in the National Natural Heritage Area

Since April 1, 2021, pedestrians and cyclists have been able to use some trails in the Lübtheener Heide National Natural Heritage area, the former Lübtheen military training area. Access is prohibited away from designated walking and cycling trails. Because of its former military use, the area is contaminated with ammunition and unexploded ordnance. Stay on the designated trails and follow the safety rules. Check the applicable regulations before your visit: access is permitted on some trails, not throughout the entire area.

Local History at the Altes Küsterhaus

Since June 29, 2003, the Altes Küsterhaus Museum has been housed in the former sexton's house on Schulstraße in Lübtheen. Its exhibitions cover the history of mining and vehicle manufacturing in Lübtheen. Both subjects relate to local history and offer a cultural focus alongside the natural landscape and trails. If you want to include a range of interests, the museum provides a different perspective from a walk outdoors.

Culture in the Wider Ludwigslust-Parchim Destination

Ludwigslust Palace is another cultural point of interest in the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and, together with its park and the town, forms an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The palace showcases art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries.
