Historic sailing ships lie in Carolinensiel’s Museum Harbour just as they did 150 years ago, when the harbour was still an active trading port. The wooden sailing cutter GEBRÜDER AZ:5 invites you on exclusive trips into the Wadden Sea. This places historic sailing ships and a trip out onto the mudflats side by side as two different ways to explore the maritime theme.

Harbour and local history

At the Groot Hus, an exhibition uses Carolinensiel as an example to show how the Siel harbours developed from trading ports into museum harbours. It focuses on how the harbours’ functions changed, while the traditional sailing ships in the Museum Harbour put the vessels centre stage. The Deichkirche dates back to 1776 and adds a specific historical point of reference to these perspectives.

The Museum Trail is a historical walking tour through Carolinensiel. This lets you encounter the town’s history in different forms: in the exhibition, on the walking tour and in the Museum Harbour. These highlights offer different ways to explore Carolinensiel’s maritime past.

The Wadden Sea and nature experiences

The Carolinensiel National Park House is located in the listed Alte Pastorei building. Its exhibition uses hands-on activities, interactive elements and an aquarium offering a 360° view to teach visitors about the Wadden Sea, its inhabitants and the natural history of the coastal region. It focuses on both the nature of the Wadden Sea and the history of this coastal landscape.

The National Park House also offers public events such as mudflat walks, boat trips and special regional tours. The East Frisia Mudflat Walking Centre offers nature experiences every day, including mudflat walks along the coast and to the islands. National Park guides offer more than 30 different types of events there, on the mudflats and in the Wadden Sea region, throughout the year.

The offerings differ both in format and scope: the National Park House, for example, offers mudflat walks, boat trips and regional tours; the Mudflat Walking Centre has a broader programme, with daily nature experiences and events held throughout the year. Before making plans, it is worth checking the latest dates for specific trips and events.

Trips and other activities

The electric Carobahn runs sightseeing tours around the North Sea spa resort of Carolinensiel-Harlesiel. It carries visitors between seven stops and is used, among other things, for trips to the beach. The Concordia II offers a trip along the Harle promenade from Carolinensiel to Harlesiel. So you can choose between a tour with several stops and a trip on the water between Carolinensiel and Harlesiel.

Watt’n’Golf is a family-friendly adventure golf course in Carolinensiel with twelve holes. This adds another activity with its own distinct focus to the historical and nature-related offerings. Whether you are more interested in local history, nature experiences, trips or adventure golf, Carolinensiel offers a range of themes to help you plan your stay.
