The Bissendorf Castle Trail is approximately 75 kilometers long, the North Circular Route passes through four districts, and Jeggen is home to a megalithic tomb dating from the Neolithic period. Visitors to Bissendorf can explore hiking, cycling and cultural history; the routes and sites each offer a different focus.

Hiking and cycling in Bissendorf

The Bissendorf Castle Trail is the municipality’s main circular hiking trail and is approximately 75 kilometers long. It passes castle complexes within the municipality. If you don’t want to plan the entire route, you can divide it into five hikes of approximately 15 kilometers each. This offers a choice between shorter stages and the full distance.

The Bissendorf North Circular Route starts and ends in the climatic health resort of Schledehausen, in the Bissendorf holiday area. It passes through the districts of Wulften, Jeggen, Wissingen and Linne. The starting point and finish are therefore in Schledehausen, while the route takes in other parts of Bissendorf.

Further afield, the 105-kilometer Horseshoe Route passes through Belm, Bissendorf, GeorgsmarienhĂĽtte, Hagen a.T.W., Hasbergen and Wallenhorst. This circular route in the OsnabrĂĽck region can be ridden in either direction, and you can join it at any point. Compared with the North Circular Route, it covers a much wider regional area.

Megalithic tomb and cultural history

The megalithic tomb in Jeggen dates from the Neolithic period, is 5,000 to 5,500 years old, and is one of Europe’s oldest cultural monuments. The Megalithic Culture Road from Osnabrück to Oldenburg passes by the Jeggen megalithic tomb. You can also stop at the tomb in Jeggen when following the Bissendorf North Circular Route.

The Museum of Agriculture and Crafts (Hof Eickhoff) is located in Bissendorf’s Natbergen district. The Tourist Information Office at the town hall on Kirchplatz in Bissendorf gives visitors tips on places to visit, hiking routes and current events. It’s a convenient place to go with questions about Bissendorf’s routes or event dates.

Outdoor pool and mini golf in Schledehausen

Built in 1927 and extensively renovated in 1990, the outdoor pool is set between streams in a picturesque landscape, with spacious sunbathing lawns inviting visitors to linger. The water in the 400-cubic-meter pool is heated by a solar system, even when the sky is overcast. The outdoor pool also has a winding yellow water slide.

The spa gardens in Schledehausen have an 18-hole mini golf course with a kiosk and terrace. Check the seasonal schedule and opening hours before your visit. The outdoor pool and mini golf course offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors, and their specific attractions can be planned separately.
