Soltau combines major leisure attractions with hands-on crafts, museum exhibits and park history. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between these highlights: roller coasters, making felt yourself and historic landscapes appeal to different interests.

Leisure attractions with different focuses

Heide Park Resort in Soltau features the roller coasters known as the “Big 7,” including Colossos, Krake and Scream. Their names make the park’s offerings tangible for visitors with a particular interest in roller coasters.

At the same resort, Peppa Pig Land offers rides and attractions for younger children. This makes it easy to classify the park by asking two different questions: Are you interested in the named roller coasters, or in attractions for younger children?

Soltau Therme has a different focus: its separate children’s area is called “Zauberwald” and offers play facilities. Attraction details, facilities and operating conditions may change. So check the operators’ latest information before your visit.

Felt, a museum exhibit and park history

At felto Filzwelt Soltau, visitors can explore felt in a playful, hands-on way across five floors. The exhibits include model machines and a walk-in printer’s type case, and visitors can also try felting for themselves. The experience combines viewing with hands-on activities, offering a different focus from rides.

At Soltau Toy Museum, visitors can see the “Dingley Hall” dollhouse. It is three metres wide and two metres high. These dimensions give this named museum exhibit a tangible sense of scale and make it a cultural attraction in its own right alongside Filzwelt.

Breidings Garten adds park history to these themes. The eleven-hectare park is located a few hundred metres from Soltau town centre. It was laid out from 1850 onwards by the Röders industrialist family. Its size, location and origins make it a distinct landscape and historical attraction.

Getting to Soltau

Soltau has a railway station, so it is possible to travel there by train. The town is also connected to the A7 motorway and public transport, making it accessible by car and public transport. If you are travelling by train, check the timetable for your travel date.

In the wider Heidekreis destination

The wider Heidekreis destination also includes kilometres of signposted routes for cycling, hiking, Nordic walking and horse riding, leading to worthwhile destinations.

In Munster in the Heidekreis district, the German Tank Museum’s exhibition comprises more than 150 large exhibits and spans five halls covering more than 10,000 square metres. The exhibition may change. Another regional history attraction is the Hof der Heidmark in Bad Fallingbostel: it was built in 1642, dismantled in 1936 and rebuilt in Liethwald. The listed building is one of the oldest in the Heidekreis district.

Wilseder Berg in the Heidekreis district is 169 metres high and is the highest elevation in the North German Plain. The surrounding area is almost car-free: car access is only possible via access roads to car parks in places around the nature reserve. Otherwise, people get around on foot or by bicycle. Check parking availability before your trip.
