Music, craftsmanship and a distinctive historic settlement form give Grindau its varied character. The routes passing Hof Grindau add to this: the Leine-Heide Cycle Route and the historic Way of St James. You can therefore choose your stay based on very different interests—an event date, village history, or activities involving cycling, hiking and horses.

Music, get-togethers and an atelier

The Heimatzoo Festival in Grindau is a two-day music event held in August. In 2026, the Saturday afternoon children’s programme included face painting, a magic show, creative activities and a bouncy castle. Dates and programmes may differ in future editions. If you are planning your trip specifically for the festival, check the dates for the relevant edition.

DorfLebenGrindau e.V. also organises opportunities to spend leisure time together, including regular get-togethers, public cultural events and traditional village festivals. These activities may change over time. Grindauer Création offers a different perspective, with handmade furniture and decorations from its Grindau atelier. Visitors can tour the atelier and find inspiration in its creations. For specific visit planning, it is advisable to check visiting hours in advance.

Cycle route, Way of St James and horses at Hof Grindau

At the edge of the village, the Leine-Heide Cycle Route passes directly by Hof Grindau. The Way of St James, a historic hiking route to Santiago de Compostela, also runs past the farm. The two routes appeal to different interests: one is a cycle route, while the other is a historic walking route. The 800-metre Paddock Trail adds another attraction, allowing visitors to experience horses in their natural surroundings.

The settlement form of Klein Grindau

Klein Grindau was a clustered village consisting of three farmsteads. Additional buildings constructed in the 19th century give the district the appearance of a Rundling village. This distinction explains its unusual appearance: the Rundling-like effect arose through later development and does not describe the village’s original structure. Pie-shaped plots and all the buildings with their gables facing the centre define the layout. It is this arrangement that helps explain why Klein Grindau looks like a Rundling village.
