The Uelser Quellen History Park (GUQ) can be explored independently all year round. As a signposted cultural and historical circular trail, it connects sites of historical significance. This means that Uelsen’s history can be experienced not only in individual buildings, but also along a trail with several stops.

Buildings and History

The Uelsen windmill is an earth-sails Dutch-type mill with a tailpole and sail wings. It is a technical monument; its restoration took place from 1956 to 2000. The windmill and the History Park offer different ways to explore local history: a technical monument on the one hand, and a cultural and historical circular trail on the other.

The Evangelical Reformed Church is Uelsen’s oldest building. Its tower’s Romanesque lower section meets a Gothic nave with a Gothic west portal. The different parts of the building create a clearly recognizable juxtaposition of Romanesque and Gothic forms.

The Old Town Hall is generally dated to 1649. A small exhibition there displays prehistoric finds and a copy of the Golden Beaker. Exhibitions and chamber concerts are also held in the town hall. This gives it a different cultural focus from the trails and buildings: exhibits and events take center stage here.

Trails and Landscape

The Around Uelsen route follows very well-maintained paths through the town center and the northern and southern outskirts of the municipality of Uelsen. From Bookesch, there are views towards the town center and Uelser Holt. Uelser Holt is an especially appealing section of the route, with gentle hills and sheltered rest stops.

The routes differ in focus: the GUQ connects cultural and historical sites; Around Uelsen is defined by its course through the municipality and the views from Bookesch to Uelser Holt. You can therefore choose between a trail with a historical theme and a route featuring the landscapes described here.

Forest Swimming Pool and Mini Golf

The Uelsen Forest Swimming Pool combines indoor and outdoor pools in the Uelsen holiday area. The indoor pool has a 75-meter-long winding slide and a toddlers’ area. The slide and toddlers’ area are specifically part of the indoor pool, while the Forest Swimming Pool as a whole encompasses both pool areas.

The mini golf course with several holes is right next to the Forest Swimming Pool. The pool and mini golf are two different leisure options, distinguished by their immediate proximity to one another.

Getting Around the Collective Municipality

Transport links across the Uelsen collective municipality include federal, state and district roads, as well as the Fietsenbus, a bus that carries bicycles. For orientation, the wider area of the collective municipality is therefore the relevant point of reference. Meanwhile, local attractions can easily be grouped by interest: cultural and historical sites, architectural history, trails through the municipality, or the facilities around the Forest Swimming Pool and mini golf.
