The Vechte flows through Ringe. Local points of interest also include public art, the history of Neugnadenfeld and a designated nature reserve within the former moorland. Ringe therefore offers different perspectives on the landscape and local history, without any single theme having to define your stay.

Public Art

The Kunstwegen sculpture “Turf Cupola” is located in the centre of Neugnadenfeld, opposite the church in Ringe. The semi-underground video room is covered with peat sods. Inside, 16 black-and-white monitors show a still 360-degree panorama of a vast landscape. This fixed all-round view contrasts with the installation’s peat-covered form. Check the latest visitor information before your visit.

The Kunstwegen work “Coordinates” is located in a wooded area between the former sports field and the war graves memorial in Ringe. Its open maze of concrete formwork elements contains hidden speakers through which stories told by local residents can be heard. Here, voices and spatial form take centre stage; by contrast, Turf Cupola focuses on a landscape panorama.

The sculpture “The Rotating Park” consists of wire cages filled with pieces of local sandstone and arranged as six geometrically positioned walls. In this work, material and arrangement stand out together: the sandstone remains visible within the wire cages, while the walls form a geometric ensemble.

Across the wider region of the County of Bentheim, Kunstwegen is an open-air museum for contemporary art, nature and history. The project extends for more than 180 kilometres through the Vechte Valley, with more than 80 sculpture projects along the route. This places the Kunstwegen works in a wider regional context, while their specific forms differ between Ringe and Neugnadenfeld.

Local History in Two Periods

The name Ringe is documented as early as 1329. Neugnadenfeld was founded in 1946 on the site of the former Alexisdorf barracks camp. These dates point to different historical periods: the early name Ringe and the later founding of Neugnadenfeld. The museum in Ringe-Neugnadenfeld offers the opportunity to experience history in an authentic setting. The Neugnadenfeld history trail explores architecture, infrastructure and culture.

Nature and the Wider Region

Around 150 hectares of the former moorland are designated as a nature reserve. Lamberg in Ringe is suitable for hiking, walking and relaxing in natural surroundings. Protected landscapes, exercise and relaxation are all part of the local nature experience. Across the wider County of Bentheim destination, heathland, raised and lowland bogs, wooded ridges and the Vechte river valley alternate.

Plan Your Meals and Stay

Ringe has the Gasthaus Schönecker restaurant and Stekhaus Corrado, which serves German and international cuisine. Check the restaurant’s latest information before dining there. If you are looking for a hotel in Ringe, you can plan your stay around the topics that interest you most: art and architecture, local history or time spent in natural surroundings.
