In Dangast, the tides meet a distinct coastal character. In Jade Bay, the ebb and flow of the tides create the impression that the bay dries out completely twice a day and is flooded again twice a day. You can swim in the North Sea at the bathing beach. A concrete path runs along the water’s edge and is easy to use with a wheelchair, rollator or pushchair. As bathing conditions vary by season, check them for your travel dates.

Mudflats, Beach and Family Activities

At the entrance to the village, the Dangast National Park House is located in the old village school. It also has a family activity centre covering more than 500 square metres. On guided mudflat walks organised by the centre, children aged 3 to 12 can go with their parents to the water’s edge with a landing net. They dig up mussels and lugworms and learn about the lives of these small creatures. If you plan to take part, check the dates in advance, as tour times may vary.

The World Heritage Wattbuttjer playground is right by the dyke and features a large play ship and other play equipment. There are other options for swimming and sauna bathing: the DanGastQuellbad has indoor and outdoor areas, and all its pools are filled with iodine-brine water. The Watt'n Sauna has two Finnish saunas, a gentle sauna and a fireplace lounge. This lets you choose between play, water and sauna activities. It’s best to check the latest visitor information for the pool and sauna in advance.

Art in Dangast

The art garden at the entrance to the village, which opened in June 2026, currently displays 11 works of art in a range of materials, as well as 6 paintings by regional artists. These figures refer to the current collection and may change. Guided tours along the Dangast Art Trail are held regularly; check the dates in advance.

Another place to experience art is the Franz Radziwill House. It preserves the artist’s original home and studio. The upper floor hosts changing exhibitions of works created there, including more than 800 paintings, watercolours and drawings. The art garden, art trail and house each offer a different focus: art in the garden, guided tours along the trail, or exhibitions in the historic home.

Planning Your Stay

There are around 280 parking spaces in front of the World Heritage Portal, as well as the “Am Strand” bus stop. This information may be useful when planning your arrival. The number of parking spaces is approximate; check for current information if you’re planning your journey around it.

If you’re looking for a hotel in Dangast, first consider whether you’d like your stay to focus mainly on the coast and tides, a guided mudflat exploration, art, or swimming and sauna bathing. This can help you choose the aspects of Dangast that best match your travel interests. When planning your dates, bear in mind that bathing conditions vary by season and tours take place on changing dates. So plan your trip around the activities that matter most to you.
