Obereversand Lighthouse is 37.40 meters tall and stands at the harbor entrance to Dorum-Neufeld. From its observation platform, you can enjoy sweeping views across the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park. Guided tours offer an insight into the lives and work of lighthouse keepers in the late 19th century. This historic building thus combines views of the landscape with a glimpse into the work of tending the beacon.

The Wadden Sea and the National Park House

The Wurster North Sea Coast National Park House is located in Dorum-Neufeld on a mound in front of the dike, right by the open mudflats and close to an important high-tide roosting site for birds. Its multimedia exhibition brings the Wadden Sea to life with large aquariums, a tidal model and informative display panels. For nature enthusiasts, the activities on offer also include mudflat walks, salt-marsh and bird excursions, dike walks and aquarium feedings. Check before your trip which activities are taking place and which dates work for you.

The surroundings of the house draw attention to different aspects of the Wadden Sea: the open mudflats, the dike and the nearby high-tide roosting site for birds. The exhibition and excursions each focus on different topics. If you are more interested in how tides and habitats are connected, the tidal model and display panels offer a useful starting point; outdoors, the focus is on mudflats, salt marshes and birdwatching.

Two routes, two views of the area

The signposted village route is a short loop through Dorum-Neufeld, designed to help you get to know the area. It is paved throughout, has no inclines and offers plenty of places to sit along the way; the route is suitable for wheelchair users. After severe weather, check the conditions on site.

The Storm Route follows a different course: it starts and ends at the fishing harbor, crosses the dike directly to the water's edge at the beach, then takes a short detour around the harbor basin to Obereversand Lighthouse. The routes thus differ clearly in their course and destinations: the village route is a loop around the area, while the Storm Route connects the beach, harbor basin and lighthouse. Conditions on the beach and dike can change depending on the weather and tide.

Fishing harbor, food and swimming

At Dorum-Neufeld fishing harbor, visitors can watch on many days of the year as fishing boats return to their home port or set off on their next fishing trip. The range of options is complemented by various food stalls and a harbor terrace, where fish sandwiches are served in a maritime setting. Individual vendors may change.

Watt'n Bad offers something different. During the main season, it has an outdoor wave pool, indoor and outdoor children's pools, and four slides. There is also a relaxation pool outdoors, as well as bubble seats and massage jets in the indoor pool. Barrier-free access and views of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site are among its other stated features. The season dates are important if you are planning to visit the pool during your trip.

Cultural attractions in the wider Wurster North Sea Coast destination

There are also cultural attractions beyond Dorumer Neufeld in the wider Wurster North Sea Coast destination. The origins of St. George's Church in Spieka date back to 1319. In Cappel, St. Peter and Paul's Church is known for its 17th-century organ by Arp Schnitger.

In Wremen, the Curious Shell Museum displays more than 3,000 shells and snail shells from around the world. The exhibits are not arranged according to scientific categories, but are given names inspired by playful word-based imaginings and the diversity of their shapes. Midlum is home to Midlum Mill, a gallery-style Dutch windmill and one of the few still-operational windmills of its kind in Cuxhaven district. The Meinecke family of millers built it in 1857 with two grinding mills and a roller mill. Baking days and events are regularly held at the mill; check the latest dates in advance. The regional landscape also includes four green, grassy beaches along the Wurster North Sea Coast.
