The Bördemuseum focuses on the traditional Geest farmers’ costume and preserves further insights into rural cultural heritage. Together with the landscape and cycling themes in the Börde-Lamstedt area, it offers a choice between cultural history and nature-related experiences—without requiring these different interests to be combined into a fixed itinerary.

Cultural History and Crafts

At the Bördemuseum, old farming and kitchen utensils complement the exhibition on rural culture. A reconstructed forge and historic craft workshops also highlight traditional crafts. The permanent exhibition includes a family tree that dates back to the Thirty Years’ War. Everyday objects from farming life are thus presented alongside a family history with deep roots.

The Bördehuus Loomst hall is also intended for cultural and local-history events, as well as exhibitions. The programme may change; check which events or exhibitions are scheduled for your visit before you go.

Landscape and Cycling in the Börde-Lamstedt Area

In the Börde-Lamstedt area, heathland and moorland meet meadows and the mixed forests of Westerberg and Zuschlag. An expanded cycling network has brought some older, partly historic routes back into use. For a specific outing, there is a signposted circular route for walking and cycling in the Stinstedter Seepolder; it is 5.4 kilometres long. The route covers the history of the landscape and the region’s animal and plant life. Two observation towers along the route offer opportunities for birdwatching.

At Nindorfer Bullenberg, there are two viewing platforms and a barbecue hut. Around five hectares of partly restored land in the Nindorfer Bullenberg area of Lamstedt are open for tourism. Those interested in these landscapes can explore them as a separate focus alongside the museum and cultural history.

The B 495 federal road provides access to the Börde-Lamstedt area. Between Nindorf and Brobergen, the Oste is crossed by a barge ferry. As ferry availability may vary, check the current service if you are planning to cross.

Discover Regional Products

The dairy shop at the Lamstedt dairy sells dairy products directly from the dairy. This offers another distinct connection to the region, alongside its exhibitions, landscapes and cycling options. You can therefore give culture, nature and regional products different weight when deciding what to focus on during your stay, rather than assuming a particular combination.

Further Attractions in the Wider Cuxhaven Destination

The wider Cuxhaven destination also offers its own sightseeing and nature experiences. The UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea Visitor Centre in Cuxhaven presents information about the Wadden Sea and the Cuxhaven coastal heaths across three floors. The Hapag Halls are a historic emigration facility and are now an event venue; guided tours and visits are offered there. In the Ahlenmoor, you can explore by moor railway, bicycle or on foot, independently or on a guided tour. These examples belong to the wider Cuxhaven destination and do not describe Lamstedt itself.
