Rengershausen combines a themed forest loop trail with carved figures and Wichtelhausen, an outdoor pool and historic landmarks. The landscape along the banks of the Nuhne adds its own distinctive touch; other themes can be found in the wider destination of Frankenberg (Eder). When choosing a holiday apartment, it is worth first considering whether your stay will focus mainly on outdoor activities, local history or also the attractions of Frankenberg.
Forest trails with different highlights
The Gnome Hiking Trail is a forest loop trail that starts and ends at the Rengershäuser Hagen, near the water reservoir built in 1931. Along the trail are wooden carvings of birds and animals. At the Distelbach is “Wichtelhausen,” where there is space to play and relax, build little houses from wood and brushwood, and walk through the water. Rengershausen also offers three signposted Nordic walking routes. So you can choose between different types of trails: the themed loop trail with Wichtelhausen and three marked routes for Nordic walking. The Nuhne Heights Trail starts and ends at the Haus des Gastes on Braunshäuser Straße in 35066 Frankenberg-Rengershausen.
Riverside setting and recognized climatic health resort
Rengershausen lies on the right bank of the Nuhne, right on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochsauerlandkreis). Gentle, wooded hills at an elevation of around 360 metres surround the village and provide ideal conditions for relaxation and active outdoor stays. Rengershausen continues to meet the requirements for the designation “climatic health resort.” The riverbank, forest and health resort status thus shape this aspect of the landscape during your stay.
Outdoor pool and historic landmarks
The Rengershausen outdoor pool has a 300 m² swimming pool with a separate non-swimmer area. It offers a distinct option alongside the walking routes if you would like to include swimming in your travel plans.
The village’s history is also reflected in a variety of historical records and landmarks. The oldest church register in Rengershausen dates from 1568. A liturgical fragment from the 12th century was presented at a New Year’s Eve service held in connection with the village’s 900th anniversary in 2007. The Nuhne Bridge was rebuilt on the historic site of an earlier crossing.
More to explore in the wider destination of Frankenberg (Eder)
The wider destination of Frankenberg (Eder) has more to offer. At Frankenberg Wildlife Park, visitors can see wild boar, deer, sheep and goats up close; admission is free. The premium Frankenberger Blickwinkel urban hiking trail is a loop of around nine kilometres that combines the city’s sights with experiences in nature. The two attractions offer different highlights: wildlife watching at the park or a hiking route that brings together town and nature.
The Historic Town Hall is also part of this Frankenberg context. Construction of the third town hall began in 1509, and it was intended to resemble a predecessor building that had burned down. Its brackets, known as corbels, support the central projecting bays on the south, north and west sides and are considered masterpieces of medieval woodcarving.
