The village has a heated outdoor pool, a wildlife park and groomed cross-country ski trails in winter. The Eder floodplain stretches between Dodenau and Battenberg; activities in this natural area include not only walks but also fishing, cycling, boating and swimming. When looking for accommodation, your travel dates are a useful first filter: cross-country skiing is seasonal, while the wildlife park and floodplain offer different highlights. Opening arrangements may vary; check them and the availability of the ski trails before your trip.
Wildlife park, floodplain and trail network
Dodenau’s wildlife park covers more than ten hectares. There, you can observe fallow deer, red deer and mouflons at close range; as is to be expected, how easily the animals can be seen may vary. A chance to observe specific animals and a spacious natural area offer two distinct nature experiences.
The Eder connects Dodenau and Battenberg via an expansive floodplain, parts of which are protected, and which is home to a great variety of plants and animals. Walking, fishing, cycling, boating and swimming offer different ways to experience the landscape. If you want to enjoy activities on the water, observe local conditions and permits.
The marked hiking trail network in the Battenberg-Dodenau area covers 130 kilometres; some routes pass through nature reserves. Mountain biking is also possible. Conditions on individual trails may change, so it is advisable to check your chosen route before setting out.
