The Main-Taunus Arboretum, historic sites, public art and a natural swimming pool offer different ways to experience Schwalbach am Taunus. When planning your stay, you can choose between nature, local history and activities centered around the water.
The Main-Taunus Arboretum between two municipalities
The Main-Taunus Arboretum covers around 75 hectares across the areas of Sulzbach and Schwalbach: 51 hectares are in Sulzbach and 23 hectares in Schwalbach. These figures distinguish the entire site from the portion in Schwalbach. Its design offers another way to explore the arboretum: 36 forest regions from around the world are each represented by a group of trees and shrubs. These groupings give the park a thematic layout, while the area figures show how it extends across municipal boundaries. The arboretum is used by walkers, joggers, cyclists and horseback riders. The listed activities range from a more leisurely outing to physical exercise. Which of them you include in your stay depends on your own plans.
Regional Park Route through Schwalbach
The Regional Park Route, which is just over 13 kilometres long, offers a different perspective. It runs from the Nidda in Sossenheim, a district of Frankfurt, to Opel Zoo in Kronberg and also passes through Schwalbach am Taunus. Schwalbach can therefore be seen not only as a destination in its own right, but also as part of a route between the two endpoints. This makes the route distinct from a visit focused on the historic town centre: its details on the course, start and destination extend beyond the municipality.
Alt-Schwalbach, Roman heritage and art
The historic town centre of Alt-Schwalbach includes the Historic Town Hall and St. Pankratius Church. Two phases of the church’s construction can be dated: it was built between 1753 and 1756 and extended in 1964/65. The Four Gods Stone in the square east of the forest cemetery offers another connection to local history. It is a replica of the foundation of a Roman Jupiter column found nearby. In this case, the focus is on a replica linked to a specific Roman find in the surrounding area. The El Lissitzky Avenue offers a different experience: it is a walk-through sculpture comprising 15 tall concrete stelae. The historic town centre, Roman heritage and public art thus provide three distinct themes for a stay in Schwalbach.
Natural swimming pool: water areas and other activities
The natural swimming pool adds another, distinctly different option. Its bathing area covers 1,340 square metres and has three water areas. The swimming pool is around 550 square metres in size and 1.90 to 4 metres deep. The non-swimmer pool covers around 600 square metres and is up to 1.30 metres deep. The natural swimming pool also has a children’s playground, a beach volleyball court, a football pitch and two table tennis tables. Alongside the water areas, there are also play and sports activities to choose from when deciding what to focus on during your visit. Seasonal use may vary; check the current opening hours before your visit.
