200,000 fruit trees shape the Hochfeld, but Kriftel is about more than just fruit blossoms: historic houses, church music, festivals and two parks offer other highlights.

Fruit Blossoms, Local History and Church Music

There are 200,000 fruit trees on the Hochfeld. The area is ideal for walks when they blossom in spring. If you are planning your trip around the fruit blossoms, you can schedule your stay for this time of year; blossom conditions may vary from year to year. Around Goethestraße, restored half-timbered houses and old farmsteads recall the village’s agricultural past as “Old Kriftel,” when farming in Kriftel was done with horses and carts. The Hochfeld is therefore a place to enjoy fruit growing and blossoms, while Goethestraße showcases the area’s historic character.

St. Vitus is the landmark of the fruit-growing community of Kriftel and the only church in the district with two towers. The Catholic church hosts church concerts at Easter, Whitsun and Advent. The Lindenblütenfest is celebrated for two days around Lindenplatz at the beginning of June. If one of these dates is important for your trip, check the specific event dates before booking.

Parks with Different Highlights

The Freizeitpark covers 105,000 square metres and stretches between Hofheimer Straße, Kapellenstraße and Brunnenweg. Its playgrounds feature sand areas, climbing frames, slides, swings and a trampoline. Sports facilities include ball courts, table tennis tables, a beach volleyball court, a skate park, a fitness park and a bocce court. Well-maintained paths, mature trees, a Kneipp pool and a mini-golf course round out the facilities. You can tailor your visit to the activities that interest you. A regular part of the annual events calendar, the “Spiele im Park” series invites families in particular to enjoy free activities together at the Freizeitpark on Sunday afternoons.

At Ziegeleipark, you’ll find a maze, a playground and a viewing pavilion with views of the Taunus and as far as the Frankfurt skyline. The park is a stop on the Regionalpark route, which runs from the Main to the Taunus and includes Kriftel. The open-air festival “MyZiegelei” has been held at Ziegeleipark for years. Check the specific festival dates before your trip. When planning your day, you can choose between two different highlights: a wide range of play and sports activities at the Freizeitpark, or the viewpoint and maze at Ziegeleipark.

Routes and Getting There

The Schwarzbach Planet Trail runs from Kriftel’s Freizeitpark along the Schwarzbach to the Main. Kriftel railway station has a direct connection to Frankfurt am Main; Frankfurt Central Station is 20 minutes away by train. Check the operator’s latest information before travelling, as timetable details can change. This lets you weigh up whether your priority is the rail connection or fruit blossoms, parks and local history.
