Marked circular trails, different walking times and views stretching as far as the Frankfurt skyline: Gründau can be explored on foot along several routes. The routes offer concrete reference points for planning your trip—from the circular trail at Hasselweiher, just over four kilometres long, to the Gründau50 hiking route, which takes in all seven districts.

Circular Trails Starting at Hasselweiher

The longest circular hiking trail starting at the hiking portal at Hasselweiher in Mittel-Gründau is marked with a white woodpecker on a green background. The route is about seven kilometres long and leads to Ronneburg; the walking time is just under two hours. At the edge of the forest, you can enjoy a view of Ronneburg, and a bench invites you to take a break. The route length and walking time, along with the distinctive trail layout, help you find your way.

You can identify another loop starting at Hasselweiher by the boar marker. It is just over four kilometres long and takes a little more than an hour. The trail climbs to Hasenkopf and returns to Hasselweiher via a panoramic path above Almessengrund. The climb and the return along the panoramic path shape this route.

The two tours differ in both length and stated duration: just over four kilometres and a little more than an hour, compared with about seven kilometres and just under two hours. If you are planning your hiking time, you can use these figures as a starting point. The route descriptions also provide different landmarks: Hasenkopf and Almessengrund on the shorter loop, and Ronneburg and views from the edge of the forest on the longer one.

Gründau50 Through Seven Districts

The hiking route developed by Hannes Schulz is provisionally titled “Gründau50.” It was created for the anniversary “50 Years of Gründau 1972–2022,” runs around the municipality and takes in all seven districts. Its scope therefore differs significantly from the two loops starting at Hasselweiher: the focus is not simply on a route that starts and returns to the same point, but on a trail that includes the municipality’s districts.

The route leads from Lieblos through the Kinzigaue and north through the Steinbach residential park to Hasselweiher on Reitzeberg. Through Mittel-Gründau, it follows the Gründau, the stream that gave the municipality its name. These place and landscape names make the route easy to picture and show how the hiking trail takes in different parts of the municipality. If you choose a tour based on its stops, you can use these specific places and sections as points of reference.

More Views Along the Way

At Ahornweg, benches at the edge of the forest invite you to linger and enjoy views stretching as far as the Frankfurt skyline. This viewpoint adds a different perspective to the impressions offered by the circular trails: here, the focus is on the far-reaching view of the skyline rather than Ronneburg. The benches and the view are a distinct landmark for anyone who would also like to take in views along the way when planning a hike.

When choosing your hiking days, it is worth first considering your preferred walking time and route. The two circular trails at Hasselweiher offer different timeframes and trail features; Gründau50 takes in all seven districts. These differences can help you focus your accommodation search on Gründau as a hiking destination without combining the individual tours into one route.
