Waldsieversdorf offers several ways to explore the area on foot. Routes range from the approximately 7 km village circular walk to the 21 km Märkische Schweiz Nature Park Route. There is also another circular trail of around 8 km and the water tower, which serves as a viewpoint. The routes differ not only in length, but also in the sights and starting points mentioned. The John Heartfield House adds a cultural destination to the local trails.

Circular Trails by Length and Sights

The approximately 7 km village circular walk starts at WaldKAuTZ and passes, among other places, the water tower, the lakeside promenade, the John Heartfield House and the public swimming area. It brings together several destinations in Waldsieversdorf along a single route. Its approximate length and specific sights give you two points of reference when choosing: opt for this walk if these places are important to your visit.

Another circular trail, around 8 km long, also starts at WaldKAuTZ. It passes Schwedenschanze, Kleiner Däbersee, Märchenwiese and Papillensee, then returns to the Heartfield House via the Heartfieldsteig trail. The two shorter walks therefore differ mainly in the sights mentioned: the village circular walk passes, among other places, the lakeside promenade and the water tower, while the second route takes in other named waypoints.

At approximately 7 and 8 km, these circular trails are similar in length. When choosing, you can therefore focus more on the sights along each route than on the small difference in distance. At 21 km, the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park Route is considerably longer; it starts and ends at the volunteer fire station on Sauerkirschenallee in Waldsieversdorf. Waldsieversdorf is also a suitable starting point for the challenging circular trail through Märkische Schweiz.

The Water Tower and the John Heartfield House

The water tower in Waldsieversdorf is 11 m high and serves as an observation tower. There is a telescope on the tower platform, and you can also view the water engineering equipment inside. The water tower has daily opening hours: 09:00 to 18:00 from April to October, and 10:00 to 15:00 from November to March. Check before your visit whether these hours are still current.

The John Heartfield House is a memorial and community center. Its exhibitions tell the story of John Heartfield’s life and work. Alongside the circular trails, it offers a cultural destination: the village circular walk passes the house, while the approximately 8 km trail returns to the Heartfield House via the Heartfieldsteig trail.

Culture in the wider Märkisch-Oderland destination

In the wider Märkisch-Oderland destination, the Brecht-Weigel House in Buckow has been a museum since 1977. The literature museum hosts readings, concerts, talks, discussions, films, exhibitions and special guided tours throughout the year; individual offerings vary. While the exhibitions at the John Heartfield House tell the story of John Heartfield’s life and work, the museum in Buckow adds its own literary focus to the region’s cultural offerings.
