For your travel planning, the main things to explore in Rahnsdorf fall into distinct categories: monuments and village history, waterside paths, and ferries and canals. Would you like to spend your stay exploring historic buildings and memorials, walking along the stream, or discovering the canals of Neu-Venedig from the water? Details about a hike and the ferry connections also provide concrete information to help you plan your time.

Village History and Monuments

The entire Dorfstraße and the village green in Rahnsdorf are now protected as historic monuments; the old fishing village of Rahnsdorf is also protected. At Kirchplatz, the sandstone relief “The Evil Cloud” by Ingeborg Hunzinger commemorates Rahnsdorf’s fishermen. The work, created in 1999, is made of sandstone.

Rahnsdorf Village Church was rebuilt between 1886 and 1888 after its predecessor was destroyed by fire. The new church was built on the ruins of the older one. Another historic monument is the Hessenwinkel Forest Chapel, built in 1910 by the architectural firm JĂĽrgensen & Bachmann.

The history of the Müggelsee lido can also be traced through specific dates. It was built between 1929 and 1930 by Martin Wagner and Hennings, and is located in Rahnsdorf at Fürstenwalder Damm 838. The lido comprises a terrace building, an entrance hall and a caretaker’s apartment. In chronological order, the rebuilding of the village church, the forest chapel and the lido all predate the sandstone relief from 1999: here you can encounter both older architectural history and a later memorial.

Walks and Canals

In the protected area of Müggelsee and Fredersdorfer Mühlenfließ, you can walk along the stream from Waldschänke Rahnsdorf to its mouth at Müggelsee. At sunset, the pier offers a romantic view across the broad expanse of the lake. The walk along the stream and the viewpoint at the pier offer different experiences: one focuses on the waterside path, the other on the view across the lake.

In the Neu-Venedig area, the MĂĽggelspree branches into five canals. You can explore them by canoe, stand-up paddleboard or small motorboat. This gives you three different types of watercraft to choose from for exploring the canals. If you prefer to get around on foot, the walk along the stream offers another way to experience the waterside landscape.

Hiking and Ferry Connections

The SO03 connecting route runs from Friedrichshagen to Rahnsdorf. It is about eight kilometres long and takes approximately two and a half hours. These details can help you estimate the time required; check the conditions on the route before setting out. The hike is therefore a separate planning option alongside walks along the stream and explorations of the canals.

The Kruggasse landing stage for the F24 ferry can be reached from Rahnsdorf S-Bahn station on bus route 161. The GrĂĽnheider Weg stop is the closest to the landing stage. The F24 crossing takes about five minutes and can be taken with a valid short-trip ticket.

The seasonal F23 ferry connects MĂĽggelwerderweg with Kruggasse in Rahnsdorf via MĂĽggelhort and Neu Helgoland. It can form part of a cycling loop around MĂĽggelsee. When planning a cycle tour, you should therefore take the seasonal ferry connection into account as well as the route; check the ferry timetable before you set off.
