Oberlangau offers two distinct starting points for planning: a fountain complex with designed water features and the GOLDLEHRPFAD, with three named sections. If you want to choose a theme first, you can focus on water and activity or on the trail’s layout; the playground and village chapel add further specific local details.

Water and other local features

The “Brunnen vereint Kneipp & Hundertwasser” fountain complex shapes its watercourse with two granite basins and a small waterwheel. It also invites adults to enjoy Kneipp therapy and children to play with water. This combines a defined watercourse with two activities aimed at different groups. A report from September 2024 placed it by the Josefshaus and within sight of St. Josef Chapel.

Oberlangau playground has a single-point spring seesaw and an axial seesaw, a freestanding slide, a swing and a goal. Check the current facilities before your visit. In July 2023, exterior renovation work on Oberlangau village chapel was reported.

GOLDLEHRPFAD: sections and navigation

The GOLDLEHRPFAD comprises the Gütting Route, the Falzbachweg with its Totenbretter, and the Stangenbergweg. You come across the Stangenbergweg on the road between Pirk and Oberlangau. The names give the overall trail a structure: the Falzbachweg is further identified by the Totenbretter, while the Stangenbergweg is associated with the road. You can first orient yourself by a named section, then by its specific navigation point.

Oberviechtach: gold history and trails

Since the 14th century, Oberviechtach has been one of Bavaria’s leading places to search for gold and precious metals. The Oberviechtach Tourist Information Office offers guided hikes that include gold panning; check current availability before making plans. These two points serve different interests: the historical statement puts Oberviechtach in context, while the guided hikes combine the gold theme with an activity.

The Eisenbarth-Steig in Oberviechtach is a 6.7 km circular hiking trail following in the footsteps of Doctor Eisenbarth. The start and finish are on the Bavarian-Bohemian Friendship Trail, beyond the arch bridge; the trail is marked with a 7. Its length, circular route, start and finish locations, and trail marking provide specific criteria for choosing a route. As a landscape feature, Stangenberg adds to the picture of Oberviechtach: it is 751 m high and the highest point in the town limits.

The Bavarian-Bohemian Friendship Trail passes Oberviechtach and offers cross-border cycling along a former railway line all the way to the Czech Republic. The hiking trails can also be distinguished by their respective features: the Eisenbarth-Steig has a stated length, circular route and trail marking, while the GOLDLEHRPFAD has three sections and the Stangenbergweg is associated with the road. The Friendship Trail offered cross-border cycling; the Eisenbarth-Steig is a circular hiking trail.
