Kolbermoor can be explored through two distinct highlights: industrial heritage around the Old Spinning Mill and a walk through historic Kolbermoor.

Old Spinning Mill and Workers’ Settlement

The Old Spinning Mill is an architectural industrial monument built of red brick on the site of a former spinning mill with a history spanning more than 100 years. It was built in 1840 and is now a modern cultural and event center within historic walls. This place brings architectural history and contemporary cultural use together.

The almost completely preserved workers’ settlement is also part of the Old Spinning Mill. Its houses date from 1862, 1907, and 1918; the town has extensively renovated the settlement. It adds a residential quarter connected to the spinning mill site to the story of the area’s industrial history.

The spinning mill’s industrial monument also offers a point of interest for cyclists: it lies directly on the Mangfall Cycle Path and recalls Kolbermoor’s industrialization. The Via Julia also passes by Kolbermoor.

Walk Along the Mangfall and Canal

The walk through historic Kolbermoor leads around the spinning mill and the former workers’ houses. It combines culture and local history with a walk through natural surroundings. The route follows several gravel paths through a nature-rich area, first along the Mangfall and then back to the starting point via the Mangfall Canal.

High water may affect an optional section; trail conditions can also vary seasonally. Check the route before setting out. A separate natural highlight in the area around Kolbermoor is the extensively restored Mangfall between Bad Aibling and Kolbermoor. There are rest areas and swimming spots along flower-covered banks; conditions may vary with the water level.

Blacksmiths’ Gathering and Playground

The first blacksmiths’ gathering in Kolbermoor was held in 1996 at the initiative of Wasti Still and Peter Elgass. The gathering takes place every two years and includes specialist talks and workshops on blacksmithing and metal design, as well as exhibitions of work by international blacksmiths. If you want to plan your trip around the gathering, check the specific event dates before making plans.

For families, the spacious playground in Spinnereipark is another local option. It is suitable for children aged 3 to 16 and features a sand play area, a swing, an in-ground trampoline, zip lines, a roundabout, climbing equipment, and a climbing and balance course.

More Cultural Highlights in the Rosenheim Destination

The wider Rosenheim destination has its own cultural highlights in Amerang. The Museum in Amerang Castle offers insights into castle architecture and the history of the aristocratic family. The Amerang Farmhouse Museum, run by the District of Upper Bavaria, showcases farmhouses, craft buildings, and technical installations from the Chiemgau region.

The Amerang Open-Air Museum offers private tours and programs for groups. These offerings may change; arrangements in advance may be necessary. Another distinct highlight is the moorland nature trail between Amerang and Halfing, established in 2010. It explains how the moorland landscape formed after the Ice Age and introduces the local wildlife and plant life.
