St. Korbinian, the traditional May devotion at Kuchlmeier Chapel and two cycling options give a stay in Heufeld a clear focus. The 31-kilometre stage of the Sempt-Mangfall Cycle Path leads to Heufeld; a companion booklet also presents the “Cycle Tour of Heufeld’s Field and Wayside Crosses.” This lets you plan your stay around specific local interests, whether you want to focus on church art, the May event or a cycling route.
St. Korbinian: Architecture and Art
Heufeld’s parish church of St. Korbinian was built in 1953–54 and consecrated on 12 September 1954. Architect Josef Wiedemann designed it in a simple architectural style. The church has a freestanding bell tower with three bells. The construction period, design and tower offer different perspectives on the same building: its historical context, architectural language and exterior structure.
The interior contains works by Heufeld sculptor Matthäus Bayer, including the wooden altar cross, the baptistery, the tabernacle and a figure of St. Korbinian. The cross with the figure of Christ is in the sanctuary. A simple architectural design is thus brought together with several works by the same artist.
May Devotions and Cycling in Heufeld
On the last Friday in May, the traditional costume association d´Mangfalltaler Heufeld e.V. holds a May devotion at Kuchlmeier Chapel. The chapel was solemnly consecrated by Pastor Walter Wenninger on 19 September 1999. If you want to plan your trip around this event, check the exact date in the calendar for the relevant year.
The 31-kilometre stage of the Sempt-Mangfall Cycle Path runs from Grafing via Bruck and Schönau to Heufeld. Near Heufeld, the cycle path reaches the Mangfall and connects with the Mangfall Cycle Path. A companion booklet presents the “Cycle Tour of Heufeld’s Field and Wayside Crosses”; the booklet and route documentation are available on the parish’s local history website. Different details are useful when choosing between these two cycling options: the stage has a specified distance and route, while the other tour focuses on Heufeld’s field and wayside crosses.
More Routes and Rail Travel in BruckmĂĽhl
In the Bruckmühl destination area, the Via Julia cycle route from Günzburg to Salzburg passes through Bruckmühl. The circular walk “Hiking in the Footsteps of the Holnstainer Knights” starts and ends at Bruckmühl station; it is about 7 km long and takes approximately 2.5 hours. A cycling route with named endpoints and a walk with approximate distance and duration therefore offer different ways to plan. As a cultural addition to the routes, Galerie Markt Bruckmühl has presented changing exhibitions of contemporary art since March 1994.
The Mangfall Valley Railway offers four places to board in BruckmĂĽhl: the BruckmĂĽhl and Heufeld railway stations, and the HeufeldmĂĽhle and Hinrichssegen stops. If you are planning a train journey, check the timetable for your travel date.
