Blossersberg has several facets: a listed farmstead sits alongside a circular walk whose return route passes through the district. Historical links range from an inn to storage cellars on the Schwarzer Regen. The walking routes differ in length and character; Viechtach offers its own cultural and cycling attractions.
A listed farmstead
The former isolated farm at Moosleuthen 7 is in the Blossersberg district of Viechtach and is a listed building. The district confirmed its permanent protected status in 2023. A description of the heritage register dated February 5, 2026, lists the property as a Waldler-style farmhouse with living quarters and a barn adjoining it at a right angle.
The history of inns and cellars
The origins of an inn at the boundary between Viechtach and what is now the Blossersberg district can be traced back to the 19th century. The historic Blossersberg cellar had a small hall where weddings were celebrated and plays were performed. On the Blossersberg side of the Schwarzer Regen were historic storage cellars belonging to Viechtach breweries and inns, including the cellars of Kreutzberger and Schmaus. Alongside the farmhouse, former inn, event, and storage traditions are therefore also part of the area’s history.
Two walks, different routes
The routes differ mainly in length: the 13 km, moderately difficult Viechtach–Neunußberg circular trail is marked with red sign No. 4. On the return, it passes through Blossersberg and offers another lovely view of Viechtach. The “Short Loop to the Schwarzer Regen” is a leisurely, approximately 6 km route along the Schwarzer Regen near Viechtach. It leads to the road to Blossersberg and then back to the starting point at Viechtach railway station via Bahnhofstraße. The loop is accessible by public transport. If you plan to take this route, check the timetable and current route conditions in advance.
Höllensteinsee: power station history and activities
Höllensteinsee was created between 1923 and 1926 during construction of the Höllenstein power station. The Schwarzer Regen was dammed over a length of 5.6 km to generate electricity. Boat trips are offered on the lake amid the surrounding forest landscape. Fishing at Höllensteinsee is possible from May to November. Fishing permits for the Schwarzer Regen from the Rugenmühlbrücke to the dam at Höllensteinsee are available, among other places, at the Viechtach Tourist Information Centre; a valid annual fishing licence is required for this section. Check the current regulations before fishing.
Cultural and cycling destinations in Viechtach
Viechtach itself is home to further cultural and scenic landmarks. St. Augustine’s Parish Church is decorated in the Rococo style, including stuccowork on the ceilings and walls, rose garlands, and rocaille ornamentation. Viechtach’s Old Town Hall dates from 1542; its second floor houses a permanent exhibition about the Großer Pfahl nature reserve.
The Viechtach Local History Museum focuses on Viechtach in old views, images and signs of popular piety, as well as linen processing in earlier times. The Viechtach Environmental Education Centre aims to provide environmental education for all age groups. For longer cycling trips, the Regental Cycle Route offers a route on a different scale: it is 162 km long, runs between Regensburg and Bayerisch Eisenstein, and passes directly through Viechtach.
Directions towards Schönau bei Plöß
The route to the Autochthonous Plant Nursery goes via Blossersberg towards Schönau bei Plöß. The plant nursery is diagonally opposite the “Gläserne Scheune”.
