Four chapel, cycling and walking routes take locals and visitors from chapel to chapel through the landscapes of the municipalities of Ruderting and Tiefenbach. The four routes can be cycled individually, combined with one another or explored on foot. For trip planning, this means you can choose between different ways of getting around and decide whether to take individual routes or combine them.

Trails and their different points of interest

The Ruderting GeHschichtenweg runs along the banks of the Ilz, parallel to the southernmost Goldsteig stage to Passau. Unlike the chapel routes, its specific points of reference are the riverbank and its parallel course to the Goldsteig stage. This lets you explore different trail themes without combining them into a single route.

The Ruderting Art Trail is suitable for strollers, providing a specific feature to consider when choosing a route. If you are looking for accommodation in Ruderting, local themes can help guide your choice: trails, local cultural history or a walk in the countryside offer different experiences.

Wayside crosses and local cultural history

There are around 20 wayside and field crosses in the municipality of Ruderting. Most were restored during the land consolidation process in the early 1990s. The largest and best-known cross in Ruderting has stood in the village center since 1935. Both the wayside and field crosses and the single cross in the town center are cultural highlights that broaden the focus beyond the trails.

At the landscape pond

The landscape pond in Ruderting has a green space with numerous trees, bushes and shrubs, inviting visitors to stroll and linger. A natural Kneipp pool and an adventure playground for children are located near the pond. The pond therefore offers a different focus from the routes: here, the green space and time spent in one place take center stage.

More highlights in the wider Passau destination

In the wider Passau destination, the Bavarian Forest Open-Air Museum is located in Tittling. It is one of Europe's largest open-air museums. On 20 hectares, visitors can see more than 100 residential and farm buildings from the Bavarian Forest dating from 1580 to 1890. The museum village includes farmhouses, mills, sawmills, blacksmiths' shops, chapels and field monuments, as well as Germany's oldest primary school, dating from 1666.

The Ortenburg Castle Cultural Program offers another regional cultural highlight. Organized by the Friends of Ortenburg Castle, the series runs from April to December and includes music events, cabaret performances, spooky nights at Ortenburg Castle, talks and guided tours. Check the dates to see what fits your travel dates.

Nature and cycling are also part of the wider Passau destination: the Haus am Strom Nature Experience Center is located in the narrow Danube valley between Bavaria and Austria, downstream from Untergriesbach. The Danube Cycle Path runs through the Passau region and received a four-star rating following an assessment by the German Cyclists' Association. If you want to take this award into account when planning, check its current certification status.

The Passau region is shaped by rivers, forests and thermal spas. Well-known thermal springs are located in Bad FĂĽssing and Bad Griesbach. The region is also home to the Granite Adventure Hiking Trail around Hauzenberg and the Smugglers' Trail in the Danube Pearls. These regional themes complement Ruderting's local trails and cultural heritage with further ways to tailor your trip to your interests.
