Trautskirchen combines marked trails through woodland and the Zenn Valley with buildings from different eras. The nature trail is an approximately three-kilometre circular route through the landscape and its history; there is also a larger network of hiking trails. The castle, church, museum, and half-timbered houses provide a second focus. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between hiking, architectural heritage, or a combination of both.

Hiking in the Forest and the Zenn Valley

The Trautskirchen nature trail starts at the hiking car park by the bathing pond near the SchĂĽtzenhaus. The approximately three-kilometre circular route runs from the eastern edge of town through the Herrschaftswald forest to the northwest of Trautskirchen. Ten information boards provide details about the landscape, nature, and history. The route description thus combines a specific trail with themed information along the way.

Trautskirchen also has 45 kilometres of marked hiking trails, connected to a regional hiking and cycling network. The larger mixed-forest area around the town is criss-crossed by trails and is ideal for extended walks. Another option is the Zenn Valley Hiking Trail, which connects Neuhof an der Zenn, Trautskirchen, and Obernzenn and passes through the Zenn Valley landscape. The Zenn Valley is part of the 110,000-hectare Franconian Heights Nature Park and forms an especially picturesque corner within the municipality of Trautskirchen.

The Castle, Church, and Local History

Trautskirchen Baroque Castle was built in 1708 by Ludwig von Seckendorff of Obernzenn and Meuselwitz as an imposing three-winged Baroque palace. The Gothic St. Lawrence’s Church, with its choir tower, offers a different historical perspective: it stands on the site of a former fortified cemetery. Its interior includes elements from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as magnificent stucco panels.

The Hans Böckler House is a small museum in the former birthplace of Hans Böckler. The exhibition covers the trade union movement since industrialisation. Alongside the buildings, the town’s social history is another theme. The Buchermühle in the district of Buch adds to the picture of local architectural history: this imposing manor building was formerly a grain and sawmill, but is no longer in operation.

Half-Timbered Houses and Practical Stops

In Trautskirchen, historic, organically developed Franconian settlement patterns and notable half-timbered houses stand alongside modern buildings. A half-timbered residential and stable building in the district of Fröschendorf dates from the 16th or 17th century. The Zenn Valley cycle path passes right by it, linking a cycling route with this historic building.

Next to Trautskirchen Town Hall, on the site of the former sports ground, there is a playground with a range of play equipment, a large sand area, a beach volleyball court, and a football pitch. As facilities may change, check the latest information before visiting. The tennis court at Merzbacher StraĂźe 29 can be booked by phone on 09107 1560; check current availability before making plans.
