Weißenhorn offers different ways to experience the town: history comes to life in the historic old town, while signposted circular trails lead through woods and meadows. Museums, theater and historic buildings add further cultural highlights. This lets you choose different focuses for your stay—from a walk through the old town to trails in the surrounding area.
The Weißenhorn audio tour leads visitors through the historic old town and brings the town’s history to life digitally. It is available free of charge through the Bayerisch-Schwaben-Lauschtour app, which can be downloaded from the App Store. Since app availability may change, it’s best to check before your trip.
Old Town, Theater and Collections
A night watchman tour with Paul Silberbaur takes you through the quiet lanes of Weißenhorn’s old town, past historic half-timbered buildings and other notable historic structures. The tour includes a night watchman’s song, halberd, horn and lantern. A guided town tour also takes in key landmarks: it starts at the Upper Town Gate, built in 1494, and continues to the Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary.
The Fugger Castle and the imposing parish church define the historic townscape at the southern end of the former town wall. The massive gate towers are other distinctive features. The Historic Town Theater has a neoclassical auditorium with 140 seats. It is considered the smallest theater in Bavaria. Markets are also part of the town’s history: they have a centuries-old tradition in Weißenhorn.
The Archaeological Museum of the City of Weißenhorn displays traces of the Stone Age, remains from Roman times, and evidence of everyday life from the Middle Ages and early modern period. Its collection includes a medieval tombstone from Attenhofen with a Hebrew inscription on the back. The Weißenhorn Local History Museum is a separate institution: founded in 1908, it has an exceptionally extensive collection for a town of its size. It is closed until further notice due to renovation work. Check whether it has reopened before your trip.
Circular Trails, Garden and Town Park
Signposted circular trails ranging from 4 to 19 kilometers are available for Nordic walking and running. They pass through woods and meadows as well as along paved sections, and take in the districts and Pfaffenhofen. The town also features cycling routes in and around Weißenhorn. The Waterfowl Loop starts at Weißenhorn railway station, Herzog-Georg-Straße 11.
The Neu-Ulm District Model Garden is located nearby, west of Weißenhorn. It showcases magnificent flowers, fragrant roses, medicinal herbs, juicy fruit and fresh organic vegetables. Free guided tours are available for groups of ten or more by appointment. The Garden Paradise Loop leads to the district model garden, the historic old town and the town park; visitors can find ideas there for caring for their gardens in a nature-friendly way.
During the summer months, Weißenhorn Town Park hosts a varied program featuring sports, music, open-air cinema and other events. If you want to plan around a specific date, check the latest event listings. For a motorhome stay, four free parking spaces are available in a central location at Parkplatz P3 Süd. They are about 500 meters from the outdoor swimming pool. Check the latest information on facilities and conditions before your trip.
