In Trinis, the Unterwallberg Loop starts at the bus stop of the same name. Other described trails run through the Weißach meadows or along the Weißach. The routes differ in their difficulty rating, course and themes along the way – from a moderately difficult hike to a flat family tour.
Hiking trails with different profiles
The Unterwallberg Loop starts at the Trinis bus stop in Rottach-Egern. The stop is in the Trinis district on Wallbergstraße; the loop is signposted as Route No. 10. It follows the Weißach via Oberach to the valley station of the Wallbergbahn. The route is rated moderately difficult. There is a separate starting point at the fee-paying hiking car park at the Wallbergbahn.
The Weissachau Loop, also called the Terrainkurweg, offers a different profile. It is rated easy and family-friendly and is 4.9 kilometres long. After entering the Trinis district, it runs through the Weißach meadows; on the way back, it follows the bank of the Weißach to the starting point. This means that a moderately difficult loop to the valley station and an easy, 4.9-kilometre loop through the meadows are available as different hiking options.
Trails along the river and through the meadows
A cycling route from the Trinis district is also described: a wide cycle path runs through the “Weißachauen” nature reserve and back to the village of Kreuth. Route conditions may vary seasonally; take this into account when planning.
The Naturschauspiel Kreuth children's hiking trail is a flat family tour along the Weißach. Its interactive stations teach visitors about the river habitat and the flora and fauna of the Weißachauen protected landscape area. The focus here is therefore not only on the distance and trail profile, but also on the nature-related themes along the tour.
In winter, the trail “From Rottach along the Weißach to Kreuth” passes through a section whose character changes in Trinis: the last houses end there, after which the trail becomes increasingly quiet. The route runs through the Weißachauen protected landscape area on designated trails. Snow and trail conditions may vary; plan your hike accordingly and stay on the designated trails.
Rottach-Egern as the wider setting
Rottach-Egern, the wider travel destination, lies on the southern shore of Lake Tegernsee, with an impressive mountain backdrop. In Egern Bay, Malerwinkel is a popular place for walks; it inspired painters, poets and composers to create their works. The Wallberg, which rises to over 1,700 metres, is also one of Rottach-Egern’s attractions. It invites visitors to enjoy long walks and challenging hikes and also serves as a launch site for paragliding.
The Wallbergbahn takes visitors up the Wallberg, where panoramic views of Lake Tegernsee and the Alps await. Its operating hours may change, so check the timetable before planning your visit. As a cultural highlight, the Gsotthaber Hof Museum offers insights into farming life and the lives of carters. The family museum also focuses on horses; children can see, hear and feel things there.
Another distinct highlight in Rottach-Egern is the lake and heated swimming pool. Its facilities include a large sports pool, whirlpool, air-bubble loungers, water slide and current channel; there is also a well-maintained sandy beach on Lake Tegernsee. Opening times may vary seasonally. This means the wider travel destination offers everything from hiking and nature to culture and swimming, while the trails through Trinis and the Weißach meadows are the local focus.
