Burgsinn lies on the lower reaches of the Sinn at the geographical transition between the Spessart and Rhön. The municipal area covers around 5,000 hectares; around 80 percent of it consists of extensive deciduous and mixed forests. With 270 kilometers of marked long-distance and circular hiking trails, hiking is a defining part of what the area has to offer. Trail listings may change, so it is advisable to check the latest route information before setting out.

Forests and Marked Trails

For a single, clearly defined route, consider the 3 km Burgsinn Spurensucherpfad. It starts at a parking lot on the MSP 17; check local access conditions before setting out. The trail offers a different planning scale from the 270 kilometers of marked long-distance and circular trails overall. Guided walks focusing on beavers, chess flowers and herbs are also available. Check that your preferred walk is available before traveling. This will help you decide whether to prioritize a set route or a particular nature theme.

Moated Castle and Local History

Burgsinn Moated Castle is a typical moated castle with a wide, water-filled moat fed by an underground spring. It is privately owned and cannot be visited; access rules may change. Four information boards along the castle walk explain the history of the site. A separate circular path in the castle park is freely accessible.

Other notable buildings include the Catholic parish church of St. Michael, also known as the Sinntaldom. It houses the ceiling painting “Fall of the Angels.” The Rienecker Gate is a surviving remnant of the former fortifications dating from the 15th century. Together, the church and town gate add two more historic landmarks to the townscape alongside the moated castle.

Getting There by Train

Burgsinn has a railway station for train arrivals. Check schedules and connections in advance, as rail service details may change.

Main-Spessart in a Broader Context

In the wider travel destination of Main-Spessart, the Spessart Nature Park is also a hiking area, with options ranging from short walks to multi-day hikes; the Spessart trails bear the “Wanderbares Deutschland” quality seal. Vineyards, water and forests combine to make Main-Spessart an appealing holiday region. The Main Hiking Trail is around 500 kilometers long; just under 100 kilometers of it run through the district of Main-Spessart, connecting Karlstadt, Gemünden a.Main, Lohr a.Main, Rothenfels and Marktheidenfeld. Archaeological cultural trails explore the Spessart landscape and share insights into the history of the Main-Spessart region. In addition, discovery trails and a mountain-bike route explore Route 46. The approximately 60 km mountain-bike route runs from Gössenheim to Rupboden and links discovery trails and information points. Six structures along Route 46 have information boards about the history of the autobahn, the living and working conditions of the workers, and historic construction techniques. Check the conditions on Route 46 before setting out, as they may change.
