Reichling offers several different highlights for a stay: a specific route, two collections with distinct historical themes, and a tradition dating back to 1435. Whether you are first interested in the Hirschaurunde, local history or the veneration of St. Leonhard can make it easier to get started with your plans.

The Hirschaurunde trail with Wurzberg and Lechhalde

The Hirschaurunde trail runs through Reichling and past Wurzberg, also known as the “Balcony of Upper Bavaria.” In the section through the village, the route descends to Lechhalde and then follows it. Wurzberg and Lechhalde are therefore specific landmarks along the route described. If you plan to do the loop during your stay, check current trail conditions before setting out.

Two museums, different historical themes

The Kleine Heimatmuseum (Small Local History Museum) is located in the old fire station in Reichling. Its collection mainly comprises objects from former rural life, old firefighting equipment, historical pictures and enamel signs. It also includes numerous certificates and documents dating back to the 16th century. The collection therefore ranges from everyday objects to written records from different periods.

The Römisch-Keltisches Museum (Roman-Celtic Museum) offers a different focus. Since 2003, it has been housed on the upper floor of the parish center on Flößerstraße in Reichling. A diorama and numerous exhibits illustrate life nearly 2,000 years ago. Most of the Roman finds from the Mühlau cremation cemetery include oil lamps, bowls, cups, vases, a hand mirror, various brooches, gaming pieces and coins. Museum visits are possible by appointment. The two collections thus differ clearly: the local history museum focuses on rural life and firefighting history alongside pictures and documents, while the Roman-Celtic Museum focuses on the period represented by the Roman finds.

A long history of veneration of St. Leonhard

The veneration of St. Leonhard in Reichling began in 1435. Since then, mounted processions and carriage processions have taken place almost every year. They attract numerous participants and spectators, including people from far beyond the district boundaries. If you would like to plan your trip around this tradition, check the date and program for your travel year.

A distinctive cultural highlight in Landsberg Am Lech

The wider travel destination of Landsberg Am Lech has other distinct cultural themes to explore. The Bayertor in Landsberg am Lech has stood since 1425 and is considered one of Bavaria’s finest Gothic buildings. Herkomer had the Mutterturm (Mother Tower) built in honor of his mother. The Landsberg am Lech City Museum presents the city’s history and connects it with questions of the present day. While Reichling’s museums focus on rural objects and Roman finds, these examples in Landsberg offer their own highlights in urban history and architecture.
