Choose what to focus on during your stay in Wirsberg: historic landmarks, circular walks and cycling, or a seasonal day at the outdoor pool. The range extends from surviving traces of early buildings to a cycle path to the source of the Main in the High Fichtel Mountains. If you are looking for accommodation, choosing between culture, outdoor activities and swimming can help shape the character of your trip and guide your hotel choice.

Historic buildings and surviving traces

The listed ensemble on the market square includes a historic half-timbered town hall and the Wappenrose Fountain. The Baroque Margrave Church of St. John is another historic landmark. It features a pulpit altar and the oil painting “The Ten Commandments”. The town hall, fountain and Baroque furnishings of the church offer different perspectives on Wirsberg’s cultural heritage.

At Neufang, only the freestanding end wall of the former Church of the Holy Sepulchre, dating from the 15th century, remains. The sandstone bridge over the Schorgast in Wirsberg is a technical monument dating from 1711. An 11th-century keep once stood on the terraced hill in Wirsberg; the surviving features are the moat and the terraced central mound. Together, these examples illustrate different aspects of building history: a former pilgrimage site, engineering history and early fortifications.

Bavaria’s first imperial monument, dating from 1889, stands on Theresienhöhe; from here, there are expansive views of Wirsberg.

Hiking, cycling and the outdoor pool

For hiking, choose the Franzosenweg or the Goldener-Falk-Weg, both award-winning circular trails in the municipality of Wirsberg. Unlike these circular trails, a cycle path leads from Wirsberg to the source of the Main in the High Fichtel Mountains. Check the trail status before setting out.

An e-bike charging station is located next to St. John’s Church at the Bürgerzentrum in Wirsberg. This gives you a specific point of reference in town when planning a cycling trip.

Wirsberg outdoor pool has a 117-metre-long giant water slide, as well as heated children’s pools, a non-swimmer pool and a swimming pool. A visit here offers a different focus from the historic sites or trails. As the pool operates seasonally, check its opening times in advance and plan your visit during the season.

Plan your food experiences and journey

At the “Zu Tisch!” food festival, more than 80 producers and artisan businesses presented high-quality food and innovative craftsmanship. Visitors could enjoy culinary delights and quality products free of charge, as well as attend workshops. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check in advance whether and when it is taking place and what the workshop programme includes.

For train and bus connections, Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg station is a useful reference point: trains from various directions stop there several times a day; buses on the local public transport network run from the station in Neuenmarkt to Wirsberg. Check the current timetables for your travel date.
