Bad Gögging combines thermal waters, Roman bathing history and trails through floodplain landscapes to create a destination with several distinct highlights. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these differences: the town offers both locally sourced natural remedies and archaeological insights, park paths and cycling routes. This lets you tailor your stay to your interests.

Thermal waters as a local highlight

Bad Gögging has three locally sourced, officially recognized natural remedies: sulfur water, natural moor mud and thermal water. In the outdoor area of the Limes-Therme, there are four pools with therapeutic thermal mineral water. The water comes from a depth of 498 meters and has temperatures of 28 to 36 °C. Thermal water thus features both in the town’s range of natural remedies and in the description of the outdoor pools; sulfur water and natural moor mud complement it as two other recognized natural remedies.

Roman bathing history on site

The Roman sauna at the Limes-Therme is housed in a replica Limes tower with a Roman bathhouse. At the Roman Museum of Spa and Bathing Culture, visitors can see excavations of various rooms from the Roman bathing complex, including the main bathing room with a large bath and four individual tubs. The museum is housed in the nave of St. Andrew’s Church in the traditional town center; the church nave lies directly above the central pool of a former Roman bath. Together, they reveal two distinct aspects of Roman bathing culture: a replica tower with a bathhouse and archaeological rooms with pools and tubs.

Park, floodplains and trails

Several waterways, well-kept paths and small bridges shape the Kurpark Bad Gögging. Two small lakes invite visitors to linger, and the park is ideal for walking and relaxing. The waterways, bridges and lakes give a park stroll a different focus from themed routes that highlight the surrounding landscape.

Themed walking and hiking trails in and around Bad Gögging pass through gentle floodplain landscapes, by moorland deposits and sulfur springs, and alongside asparagus and hop fields. The options range from a stroll in the spa park to trails whose themes take in the wider landscape around the town. When choosing, consider whether you would rather focus on park features or on floodplains, springs and fields.

The town’s role also varies by route: the Limes Hiking Trail ends in Bad Gögging, the Danube Cycle Path passes through the town, and the Abens Cycle Path begins here. It runs along the Abens through the heart of the Hallertau region. For route planning, this gives you a clear comparison: Bad Gögging is the endpoint of a hiking trail, lies along the Danube Cycle Path and is the starting point of the Abens Cycle Path. In the wider destination of Neustadt a.d.Donau, the Late Gothic town hall dates from the late 15th century; the two-story building with its steeply pitched gable roof was extensively renovated in 1977.
